Erietta Kourkoulou-Latsi (Greek: Εριέττα Κούρκουλου-Λάτση; born 1993)[1]is a Greek activist and investor, known for her involvement in animal welfare, children's rights, and promoting veganism.[2]

Early life, family and education

Erietta Kourkoulou-Latsi is the daughter of Marianna Latsis[3][4] and Nikos Kourkoulos[5] and the granddaughter of Ioannis "Yiannis" Latsis and Erietta Tsoukala.[6] She has three brothers, Filippos Kourkoulos Latsis, Paris Kasidokostas and Alkis Kourkoulos, and one sister, Melita Kourkoulou. In 2020, she married Vyron Vasileiadis[7] and in 2022, they had a son named Nikos Vasileidis Kourkoulos.

Kourkoulou-Latsi completed her secondary education before attending the American College of Greece (Deree) from 2012 to 2017, where she majored in Sociology. In 2020 she received a master's degree in Animal Studies from the New York University.[8]

Activism and Career

Kourkoulou-Latsi has been involved in advocacy for ethical treatment of animals, focusing on fostering empathy towards all living beings.[9]

Save a Greek Stray

In 2012, at the age 15, Kourkoulou-Latsi established her first non-governmental organization, Save a Greek Stray.[10] The organization was established to address the issue of stray animals in Greece, initially focusing on rescuing and rehoming animals.[11] It operates an animal shelter and veterinary clinic in Oropos, providing care and accommodation for animals before rehoming.[12]

iThe organization has implemented various programs to raise public awareness about stray animals and promote solutions, including educational initiatives, sterilization programs, and therapy dog programs.[13] [14] [15]

A Promise to Animals

In 2020, Kourkoulou-Latsi founded A Promise to Animals, an NGO dedicated to raising awareness about the impacts of livestock farming and advocating for plant-based diets.[16] [17]

The organization conducts research,[18] campaigns against animal cruelty,[19] and organized a photo exhibition in collaboration with Jo-Anne McArthur displayed in Greek Metro Stations, which focused on the exploitation of animals by humans.[20][21] and organizes educational events[22][23], including the first Vegan Medical Conference in Greece.[24][25]

Business interests

In addition to her activism, Kourkoulou-Latsi has engaged in business ventures, including co-founding the vegan bakery Holy Llama in Athens with Kellina Dimitriadi in 2022.[26][27]

She is also involved in ethical investments, supporting vegan startups and food tech ventures.[28] In 2022 she became a member of the board of The Greek Cancer Society.[29]

Kourkoulou-Latsi participates in philanthropic activities through several foundations.

Matilda Foundation

Elected president of the Matilda Foundation in 2019, Kourkoulou-Latsi leads efforts to protect children from abuse and neglect[30][31], collaborating with various organizations to implement protective programs. [32][33]

Kind Things Public Benefit Foundation

In 2023, Erietta Kourkoulou-Latsi established the "Kind Things" Public Benefit Foundation[34]. This foundation supports a range of causes, including animal welfare, children's rights, environmental initiatives, and assistance to vulnerable social groups. [35][36]
