Suspected sockpuppets

  • All accounts modify categories to food articles (often related to Korea or noodles) in the same way.
  • All accounts edit/edit war over symphony and other classical music articles such as Dynamics (music).

This is abusive because, after warnings, one account adds or removes categories inappropriately, often adding a parent category while the child is present. After we revert, the sock comes in and restores it. A typical example: here by 백돌 then by Quick Camera. Another typical case: [1]

If you need more diffs, there are plenty, but I've poured over almost all of their edits, and they're certainly the same person.

This editor doesn't communicate except for a single edit summary, in perfect English.

The latest sock, 게이트, makes strange category additions such as [2] and [3].

This editor also appears to use IPs starting with 175.126 Anna Frodesiak (talk) 12:25, 14 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I just added Toilethead101. Same pattern of modifying categories, including one incident of adding parent cat when child is present: [4]. Very likely sock as edited in common with one or more of the others: Symphony No. 3 (Beethoven), Karate, Wing Chun, Choco Pie, and Planking (fad).

  • CheckUser requested - Self-endorsed by clerk for checkuser attention - Reasonable overlap. Tons of modifying of categories is odd, but combined with Dynamics (music) I am suspicious enough to request checkuser. NativeForeigner Talk 23:33, 19 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  •  Clerk note: Socks blocked and tagged. Master blocked for a week, although the prevalence of socks would lead me towards less leniency in the future. NativeForeigner Talk 03:26, 20 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

This is a sleeper account of 대우건설, blocked on kowiki. He has been replacing some pages (such as Chocopie, etc) to nonsense ("F*** you", and when blocked, on his talkpage, "why are you blocking me ********" or "unblock me *******") since August 2013, and is being locked on sight. — revimsg 03:46, 3 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Added 오재호 부경대 대기학과 교수‎ for comparing, 대우건설 is probably Stale. It's just for categorizing. — revimsg 03:48, 3 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

 Completed Account blocked on ko-wikipedia for sockpuppetry, and globally locked. I believe the lock means the local en-wiki block is unnecessary, but I've done so anyway, and tagged the userpage. Closing — MusikAnimal talk 01:33, 10 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Obvious sock - please revoke his talkpage access. (Blocking admin Materialscientist seems not around, and I asked him to revoke his access, but he didn't)  Revi 06:20, 6 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • The account is globally locked, which means the user won't even be able to log-in, let alone edit their talk page. The SPI case seems to be all set. Mike VTalk 01:38, 7 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • 산들 (가수) is most likely a sockpuppet of 대우건설 because they both put the same thing on their user page when they create their account. Also 이승기 (1987년) and 산들 (가수) did a similar edit to 2002 FIFA World Cup. Keres🌑(talkctb) 16:50, 12 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Similar username and similar vandalism to various articles per contributions. Ensure if there are more accounts created. Paper9oll (🔔📝) 09:00, 14 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Scanning through the revision history for Jeon (food), Autumn, and Jun Hyo-seong seem to suggest (judging by the similar behavior of blanking/redirect and edit summary of "wrong information" inline with the two socks did with Seoul Subway Line 3 and Seoul Subway Line 5) there are even more related socks and that the actual sockmaster may not be Namuwiki Hyperuniverse.  Looks like a duck to me, this is a LTA called BAEG. PAVLOV (talk) 10:22, 14 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@PAVLOV BAEG is who? Couldn't find the account at Special:ListUsers nor at WP:LTA and its subpages. Paper9oll (🔔📝) 12:25, 14 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
user:백돌. PAVLOV (talk) 12:28, 14 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@PAVLOV Ah okay, Korean-language username, I was searching for English lol. Maybe Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/대우건설 and this report should be merged into Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/백돌 as Namuwiki Hyperuniverse was blocked around an hour ago as sock of 대우건설. I think I leave it to the clerk and/or administrators responsing to decide instead. Paper9oll (🔔📝) 12:32, 14 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Secretlondon blocked one and I blocked the other without noticing this SPI had been filed. Both are now locked as well. Merged per PAVLOV.  Clerk endorsed to refresh the CU trail and per history of running sleepers on other wikis. -- Tamzin[cetacean needed] (she/they) 12:56, 14 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  •  In progress - -- RoySmith (talk) 14:09, 14 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • I'm not following the evidence trail here. I don't understand who BAEG is. Namuwiki Hyperuniverse and Naziwiki Hyperuniverse certainly look similar, both from the usernames and their editing overlap, but a quick look at the interaction report doesn't make me think they're related to any of the other accounts in this case. I'm also leery of picking up a case in 2021 that went dead in 2014.
    In any case, I ran checks on the Hyperuniverse twins. The raw CU data says they're Red X Unrelated, but there's also strong indications of proxy use, so  Inconclusive  Behavioural evidence needs evaluation also applies. I've left some notes in cuwiki, so at least we've got some data going forward. -- RoySmith (talk) 14:36, 14 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • I'd already  Tagged both as proven after I blocked Namuwiki, based on their blocks on other wikis as BAEG, their locks based on m:SRG postings that referred to them as socks of BAEG, and their overlaps with BAEG at [5] and [6]. The connection between Namuwiki and Naziwiki is also made clear by Naziwiki's edit summaries mentioning "NAZI" and "NAMU". Closing. -- Tamzin[cetacean needed] (she/they) 16:52, 14 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
    @Tamzin@PAVLOV I still don't understand who BAEG is. There is no User:BAEG on enwiki, or globally. Help me out here. -- RoySmith (talk) 17:15, 14 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
    @RoySmith I believe BAEG is just an translation of User:백돌 since the username is Korean-language. Paper9oll (🔔📝) 17:17, 14 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
    Well, he is best known for BAEG cross Chinese, Japanese and Korean Wikipedia, because "백돌" sounds like "baeg dol" and "백" sounds like "BAEG" PAVLOV (talk) 17:17, 14 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
    Got it, thanks. -- RoySmith (talk) 17:29, 14 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
    By the way, their name is too hard to type. So we called them BAEG instead. PAVLOV (talk) 19:38, 14 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The two accounts have similar naming structures, and also share an interest in deleting content relating to Seoul's train system. That being said, the sock appears to be doing so a bit more aggressively (compare sock 1, 2, 3 with master a b c. I'm seeing that the master is globally locked, and I suspect that the two are connected due to the proximity in timing (the second account was created a day or so after the master was globally locked) and the shared interest. I'm placing this here for record-keeping's sake, as I've already blocked the user as a sock and global locks have been requested. — Red-tailed hawk (nest) 04:57, 2 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
