Peters first stint at representational politics in 1993 saw him challenging a former Prime Minister of Jamaica, The Most Honorable Hugh Shearer to win the South East Clarendon seat, which was historically a JLP stronghold. Peter served as the Parliamentary Secretary with special responsibility for mulatilaterally fundedprojects, in the Ministry of Health in 1993. After serving the people of South East Clarendon for four years, Peter took a brief respite from representational politics only to re-enter the arena in 2007, where he defeated the JLP representative Sally Porteous and secured the Central Manchester constituency for the Peoples National Party. Peter retained his Central Manchester seat, this time defeating the JLPs Danville Walker in the December 2011 general elections. Since January 2008, Peter Bunting has been the Peoples National Partys General Secretary, responsible for the strategic and operational management of the Party and implementation of its aims and objectives at national, regional and local levels as laid down by the annual conference and the National Executive Committee (NEC).

'''Political Vision and Platform'''
An investment banker and politician, Bunting is a firm believer in the role of technology and entrepreneurship in the development of his country. His ultimate aim is to engineer Jamaicas path to being noted for its state of the art technological base, powered by a strong network of educational facilities.

The future of central Manchester will be in knowledge based industries away from primary extractive industries such as mining and farming. Though unpopular due to the dominance of those industries, Peter believes that Manchesters prosperity lies in it equipping itself to take advantage of the demand for tier three level, skilled professionals. With its low crime rate, thriving construction industry, and moderate climate, the parish is perfect for knowledge-based expansion. With the right training, Peter envisions Mandeville becoming Jamaicas technology park and hub for health professionals, medical labs, medical technologists, chiropractic practitioners especially trained to service the retirement community.

A Balanced Life of Service to the Jamaican Public and Private Sectors
Bunting is a highly successful entrepreneur and investment banker. He co-founded Dehring Bunting & Golding (now ScotiaDBG) - - Jamaica's first private sector investment bank which quickly developed a track record of innovation and successful deal making.
