Wikipedia:Requests for page protection

This is an old revision of this page, as edited by Samsara (talk | contribs) at 00:33, 3 December 2016 (→‎Johnny Rebel (singer): semi 6 weeks). The present address (URL) is a permanent link to this revision, which may differ significantly from the current revision.

Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here.

Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection)

After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Current requests for increase in protection level

Place requests for new or upgrading pending changes, semi-protection, full protection, move protection, create protection, template editor protection, or upload protection at the BOTTOM of this section. Check the archive of fulfilled and denied requests or, failing that, the page history if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

    Gestrid's subpages

Permanent semi-protection: User request. No new user or IP user should have any reason to edit these. Many of these are transcluded onto various other pages of mine. Yes, I realize it's a rather large request. Gestrid (talk) 07:38, 1 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

    Semi-protected indefinitely. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 08:09, 1 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@CambridgeBayWeather: I added several more pages while you were handling my request. I apologize for that. Gestrid (talk) 08:10, 1 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Semi-protected indefinitely. Think I got them all this time. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 08:45, 1 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
     Requesting immediate archiving... Airplaneman 22:32, 2 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

    Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – IP vandalism. Widefox; talk 09:54, 2 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

    Temporary semi-protection: Risk of edit-war --Dans (talk) 09:57, 2 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

    Semi-protection: Persistent vandalism. Wikibaji 10:54, 2 December 2016 (UTC)

Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. Samsara 16:48, 2 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

    User:Iniced Sockpuppet and block evasion

Temporary semi-protection: These pages are continually been blanked by sockpuppets and IP's of Iniced. Emir of Wikipedia (talk) 13:44, 2 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

    Indefinite create protection: Repeatedly recreated. Zackmann08 (Talk to me/What I been doing) 17:10, 2 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection: High level of IP vandalism. Previous protection expired less than 2 days ago and the same IP-hopping vandal is back again - David Biddulph (talk) 18:23, 2 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

    Semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing. EvergreenFir (talk) 18:24, 2 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 2 weeks, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Samsara 00:01, 3 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection: High level of IP vandalism. Previously protected on a number of occasions, but the same IP-hopping vandal is back again --David Biddulph (talk) 18:25, 2 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection: High level of IP vandalism. A flurry of changes and modification has been happening for the past days. This is linked with current events in the Philippines where there is a propaganda effort to revise the history during the Martial Law years in the Philippines by followers of the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos. Revisions are not made by Philippine historians. Please allow revisions from the National Historical Commission of the Philippines. Revert to entry version before the series of historical revisionism changes were made Ecsamson (talk) 19:06, 2 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection: An IP user is changing the article. I can't count this as vandalism but most of his edit doesn't fit here. Protection please. Beshogur (talk) 19:09, 2 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection: An anonymous vandal with a dynamic IP is trying to vandalize the page in order to turn it into an inane attack page. I think temporary semi-protection for a few days might dampen the vandal's inane spirit.--Mr Fink (talk) 19:52, 2 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 5 days, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Samsara 00:14, 3 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Concerted vandalism by multiple IPs. I think a lock for a day will spoil the fun. The Banner talk 19:58, 2 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 5 days, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Samsara 23:56, 2 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

    Permanent semi-protection

Temporary semi-protection: Return of sock of User:Vote (X) for Change. Activity on both article and talk page. See WP:Long-term abuse/Vote (X) for Change. The article was temporarily semi-protected twice this year and twice in 2011 for the same reason. Sock puppet investigation also submitted. Jc3s5h (talk) 20:00, 2 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Tropical year has been protected by User: Future Perfect at Sunrise, unknown if in response to this posting or independently. I was mistaken about talk page activity (this time). Jc3s5h (talk) 20:53, 2 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary full protection: Persistent addition of unsourced or poorly sourced content. DarkKnight2149 20:28, 2 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 3 days, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Individual autoconfirmed abusers should be dealt with on a warn and block basis. Think about WP:3RR. Samsara 00:06, 3 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection: the Karl Blossfeldt article has been under a constant barrage of vandalism for years. It is (opinion) school based activity, a typical vandalism being adding the words "poo poo" to article, as happened today. In this case the same IP address removed the edit, but it still needed to be checked out, and it's tiring to see the same article come up again and again. Could you please not allow IP numbers to edit it? Forever? Thanks, Einar aka Carptrash (talk)

I don't understand what these replays are, but I suspect it's another way of saying "F**k off." Carptrash (talk) 21:36, 2 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Semi-protected for a period of 1 week, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Airplaneman 22:36, 2 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Pending-changes protected for a period of 1 year, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Airplaneman 22:36, 2 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

    Semi-protection: Persistent vandalism. Oneforfortytwo (talk) 21:46, 2 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 1 week, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Airplaneman 23:25, 2 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary Semi-protection: Multiple IPs attacking this BLP. Not sure if they are annoyed that the captain is leaving his team, or annoyed at his play and wishing he would leave the team. Meters (talk) 22:36, 2 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 2 days, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Airplaneman 23:25, 2 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – IP and newbie edits are not good at all, but PC1 is not working for now. KGirlTrucker81 huh? what I've been doing 22:43, 2 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 2 weeks, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Airplaneman 23:19, 2 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Request extended-confirmed protection, as one user in particular keeps "correcting" the page. MB298 (talk) 00:23, 3 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

    Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Recent vandalism. MB298 (talk) 00:25, 3 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 6 weeks, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Samsara 00:33, 3 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection: Persistent IP vandalism, likely relating to the ongoing English football historic sexual abuse reports in the news. A long period, if not permanent semi-protection is needed as this has been targeted before. The C of E God Save the Queen! (talk) 00:26, 3 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for reduction in protection level

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin at their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

    • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page" which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
    • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
    • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
    • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Unprotection: Has just been drafted in the 2016 AFL Draft, will make a redirect until he makes his AFL debut ref. The-Pope (talk) 13:13, 25 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

    @RHaworth:--Ymblanter (talk) 17:53, 26 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@The-Pope: For what it's worth, regardless if this title gets unprotected of not, I'd oppose creating this title as a redirect to 2016 AFL Draft. Such redirects have been nominated at WP:RFD in the past per WP:XY issues and most, if not all, have been deleted. Steel1943 (talk) 16:40, 28 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I don't redirect them to the draft article but to articles like List of Fremantle Football Club players#Listed players yet to play an AFL game for Fremantle, as per {{R from member}}. That way people searching for the new player can see some basic information before he's notable enough for a full article. The-Pope (talk) 11:33, 29 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Unprotection: i want to update the page but my edits keep on getting reverted. 88.109.198.144 (talk) 16:10, 2 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Declined Too soon. Try discussing your edits on the talk page first. Samsara 17:24, 2 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I don't understand what these replays are, but I suspect it's another way of saying "Fuck off." Carptrash (talk) 21:33, 2 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Carptrash: Is there any further problem that needs addressing? Your comment is a bit cryptic. Samsara 00:17, 3 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Indefinite create protection: Repeatedly recreated. Largoplazo (talk) 19:42, 2 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for edits to a protected page

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

    • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
    • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
    • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
    • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
    • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.

Edit request: The description page at Commons is tagged PD-ineligible, would it be possible to update the local copy here? Matt Fitzpatrick (talk) 12:22, 2 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
