Demetrius Newton (died September 11, 2013) was an American civil rights attorney and politician. He represented Martin Luther King, Jr., and Rosa Parks.He then served in the Alabama House of Representatives, where he became the first Black speaker pro tempore.[1]

Newtown served as the city attorney of Birmingham, Alabama. He was elected to the Alabama House in 1986, and served as speaker pro tempore from 1998 through 2010.[1]
