Rollback

I have about 9 months old account with about 1300 edits with Redwarn and Twinkle. I am especially active at RCP and editing the ITN articles. I would like to request for rollback permission to use advanced tools like Huggle and Antivandal. Boyinaroom (talk) 06:00, 7 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I have been using tools like twinkle and Ultraviolet to revert vandalism. I would like the rollback right so I could use other more advanced tools like Huggle.CocaPopsRather (talk) 21:20, 7 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi CocaPopsRather, welcome to Wikipedia. Please keep up the good work for a few more weeks; I'd like to see a month or two of experience before giving Huggle into your hands. ~ ToBeFree (talk) 11:28, 14 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Ok thank you. CocaPopsRather 22:01, 14 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I have made various edits using twinkle for months. It would be helpful to have access to rollbacks SKAG123 (talk) 00:04, 10 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I am editing Wikipedia from many months, I edit many pages cognate to Science, Politics especially articles cognate to TV channels. I have to revert many disrupted edits by incipient users & IP. In pages cognate to politics many users come and transmute the content I utilize any other things to revert those vicissitudes, I require Rollback as it will avail me a lot to fight vandalism. Please provide me this feature. ✠ ZenDragoX✠ (contact) 13:46, 11 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I have been an active editor here for the better part of 16 years. I have adopted as a personal motto the idea that "we can disagree without becoming disagreeable." If I am granted rollback permissions, I will use those tools to continue to collaborate with editors across a wide range of projects, and to ensure that vandalism/disruptive edits do not stand. I have been encouraged to seek these permissions because of my track record as an editor. Thanks for your consideration. Jgstokes (talk) 08:44, 16 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Jgstokes, with WP:ROLLBACKUSE in mind, I'm not sure how the tool can be used for collaboration? It's a one-click destructive action... ~ ToBeFree (talk) 20:25, 17 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@ToBeFree, that's a fair point. But the rest of the sentence you referenced was "to ensure that vandalism/disruptive edits do not stand". As I may or may not have mentioned, I know of several others with these permissions, or who serve as Wikipedia admins, and I would be committed, in consultation with them when questions arise, to ensure that vandalism/disruptive edits do not stand. I recognize that, if I am granted these permissions, I may not always know how/when to use them correctly. But with the connections I have to other editors with these permissions, if I did have any questions about whether using the tools would be appropriate, I have several people in mind I can trust to clarify that for me. Sorry if I wasn't specific enough in my earlier comment. Jgstokes (talk) 20:59, 17 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, no worries – I just wanted to make sure you're aware what exactly you are applying for, as it seemed that the wording could have been used for pretty much any permission request except rollback. That felt strange enough to ask. 😊
Jgstokes, I'll grant the permission because it is highly unlikely to be misused and you have many years of experience in dealing with disruptive edits. If I see correctly, you haven't used warning templates yet and wrote all the messages yourself; this is surely commendable but tedious and may have led to the lack of such messages after your last reverts. Please do try the templates; they contain HTML comments that are automatically interpreted by other editors' tools and bots, and they help newer recent changes patrollers to have something easy to refer to when deciding whether to file a report at WP:AIV or to escalate the tone of the existing warnings. ~ ToBeFree (talk) 21:20, 17 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
