Rollback

Perhaps this is a bit premature but I'm going to WP:Bebold and ask for rollback rights. I'm currently working on chipping away some subtle anti-vax vandalism at Heather McDonald's page, and I'm thinking to myself, wouldn't this be easier with rollback? I already have Twinkle installed and am reinventing myself as an anti-vandal. ❤HistoryTheorist❤ 04:30, 29 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

(non-admin) (not expressing any opinion about granting the perm) Hi @HistoryTheorist, I wanted to let you know that rollback wouldn't have helped particularly in that case. Rollback reverts all edits made consecutively by the same user if and only if they're the most recent edits to the page. In the McDonald case, you only could have rolled back the most recent edit. Using a range-based undo, mentioned in the User:Shelovesneo section on this page, would have let you undo the edits you reverted in a single edit. In the history view click on the radio button for the edit before the earliest one you want to undo and the radio for the newest edit you want to undo, hit Compare, review the changes, and then the "undo" on the compare view will, if it can, show a preview of the undo and then let you undo that entire range of edits. Happy editing! Skynxnex (talk) 19:38, 29 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I'll keep that advice in mind, but I'll consider withdrawing my application (have not decided yet) for rollback & gain more experience. I can basically do the same thing with Twinkle. ❤HistoryTheorist❤ 22:35, 29 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I have been editing Wikipedia for over 12 months and have made over 1700 edits in the mainspace. I have a good understanding of Wikipedia's policies and guidelines, and I am familiar with the process of undoing vandalism. I am also committed to upholding Wikipedia's standards of neutrality and accuracy. I believe that I have the skills and experience necessary to be a responsible Rollback user. I am confident that I can use this permission to help protect Wikipedia from vandalism and keep its content accurate and neutral.

Thank you for your consideration. TruxtVerified (talk) 05:54, 29 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Automated comment This user has had 3 requests for rollback declined in the past 90 days ([1][2][3]). MusikBot talk 06:00, 29 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Oppose given the pretty evident hat collecting behavior exhibited by this user. Zippybonzo | Talk (he|him) 12:23, 30 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
TruxtVerified, you use Twinkle, so you already have a tool for the described use-case (protecting Wikipedia from vandalism). No additional tool is needed for keeping Wikipedia's content accurate and neutral either. Additionally, you have not addressed the concerns that led to earlier declines, and there is already at least one experienced user who opposes the permission-granting. This is thus not happening at the moment.
You are now blocked from making further permission requests for a year. If you return to the permission requests pages after the year, please make sure to describe an actual use-case for the desired permission, and to openly explain your earlier attempts to gain a permission for no actual purpose or without the needed qualification. ~ ToBeFree (talk) 10:01, 4 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Reason is for using tools like huggle which require rollback rights. I do use redwarn and utlraviolet, but i would be more produvcitve if i use huggle as i also have slow internet connection and going back to the recent changes page and waiting for it to load is slow. i am fizz (talk) 09:06, 29 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

i am fizz, you're requesting access to a tool that allows you to quickly undo others' contributions. Looking at the lack of capitalization and the typography errors in your request ("utlraviolet", "produvcitve"), the lack of proper explanation in Special:Diff/1173760986 and Special:Permalink/1173760995, as well as the desolate state of your user talk page, I'm afraid that you will not be accountable for your contributions, and granting you a way to revert edits more quickly than you currently do is more likely to be harmful than helpful to the encyclopedia. ~ ToBeFree (talk) 10:26, 4 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I have been partially patrolling recent changes, and dealing with the vandalism I currently deal with would be easier with this right. Faster than Thunder (talk | contributions) 14:06, 30 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Besides editing on WP, I'm also on Reddit and follow the WikipediaVandalism sub-reddit [4] to counter the WP-vandalism reported there. That particular part of Reddit is currently going through a less active stage, but that goes up and down. Even so, I'm pretty sure I will not be a very active roll-backer, though I'm planning on looking into WP:vandalism-related pages more (than I already have) to see what I can do to help. I've read WP:rollback, and will again, if granted permission, for having a good understanding and becoming comfortable with this user-right.
I believe my edit history speaks for itself. If anybody wonders what the heck happened with my editing on Afrikaans WP recently (I tend to roam fairly wide across the projects), I point you to my af talkpage here. Ofcourse I'm willing to elaborate further if requested, as well as answer any other questions.
I believe that I would be a small but good addition to counter vandalism.
Dutchy45 (talk) 06:26, 3 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Dutchy45, if I see correctly, you're currently not informing the reverted users about the reason for your revert. Wikipedia's policy against vandalism describes this process, and WP:UWARN is a huge table of available templates. Twinkle can help with choosing and adding these ("TW" -> "Warn" on any user's talk page). Please let me know on my talk page when you have warned at least 10 users this way, and I'll grant the permission. ~ ToBeFree (talk) 10:37, 4 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

You are seeing that correctly. I will look into that and once rectified inform you.

Thanks :) ~ ToBeFree (talk) 12:25, 4 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I have been editing Wikipedia for many years and have made over 12000 edits in the mainspace. I understand Wikipedia's policies and guidelines, specially patrolling possible vandalism, reversing some of them on my own and/or in case of recurrence, reporting to other users and/or administrators so that they can take the necessary measures. So I think it would be beneficial to the community for me to gain rollback to help in the fight against vandalism on Wikipedia. Luks25 (talk) 15:12, 3 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Luks25, despite your editing experience of over a decade and a five-digit number of edits, it seems – looking at your list of undos – that you're yet to establish the required "measurable track record of counter-vandalism". Would you mind gaining some experience with Special:RecentChanges, as well as Twinkle for reverting and warning users? ~ ToBeFree (talk) 10:17, 4 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, sure, I don't mind to gain more experience before, thanks!! Luks25 (talk) 20:53, 4 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hey there! I'd like to request rollback rights to assist in the counter-vandalism work I've been doing for the last couple months, primarily while reviewing pending changes, but also in limited cases while reviewing at AfC. I am currently learning more about dealing with vandalism at CVUA. I have read the rollback guideline in its entirety, and will follow it in good faith to the best of my ability. Hello, the specified date for this role has passed, and I was previously inactive in this role. However, I am now prepared and would like to request to resume it. Endrabcwizart (talk) 07:53, 5 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

To be fair, Endrabcwizart, you've had (and have not taken) multiple opportunities to misuse the permission already. 😉 So I don't see a huge danger in granting it without expiration date either. Take your time.
