Vivien Lyra Blair (born 2012 or 2013) is an American child actress. She rose to prominence for her role in Bird Box (2018). Her appearances in video game Telling Lies (2019) and superhero film We Can Be Heroes (2020) garnered her further recognition. In 2022, she portrayed Leia Organa in the Disney+ series Obi-Wan Kenobi, for which she received critical praise.

Early life

Vivien Lyra Blair was born in 2012 or 2013. Blair has been vegetarian since she was born.[1] She has done Taekwondo since the age of five.[2]

Career

Blair first appeared onscreen in the 2017 film Band-Aid and subsequently appeared in the limited series Waco (2018). She rose to prominence after portraying Girl in Bird Box (2018) at the age of five.[1] The film follows a woman who blindfolds herself and her two children to protect them from entities that cause people to die once seen.[3] Blair spent the majority of Bird Box blindfolded.[1] A reviewer for The Rensselaer Polytechnic found her performance "impressive, especially from someone so young".[4] Despite its mixed critical reception,[5] Bird Box became Netflix's most-watched film until it was surpassed by Red Notice in 2021.[6]

The following year, Blair made her first video game appearance in Telling Lies.[7] The Guardian considered her "[a]n unexpected joy ... with adorable confidence".[8] Blair starred as Guppy in superhero film We Can Be Heroes (2020), the sequel to The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl in 3-D (2005).[9] She did all her own stunts.[2] While the film received mixed reviews,[10] The Daily Telegraph praised Blair's performance as "very funny" and "just absurd ... the effects team simply aren’t needed when she’s doing her thing."[11] In 2022, Blair portrayed Leia Organa in the Star Wars series Obi-Wan Kenobi. Many critics were positive towards her performance: Variety described her line deliveries as "aplomb",[12] while The Daily Telegraph argued she had "the perfect mix of vim and innocence".[13] In a more mixed review, Nick Schager of The Daily Beast said her "line readings [are] not ... consistently great".[14] Blair will play Emily Gradstone in the upcoming drama Dear Zoe, based on the young adult novel of the same name by Philip Beard.[15] She is also set to appear in a horror-thriller film adaptation of Stephen King's short story "The Boogeyman".[16]
