- The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more categories. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the category's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
- The result of the discussion was: delete (non-admin closure). Marcocapelle (talk) 10:08, 25 May 2019 (UTC)
- Nominator's rationale: Only one related article which doesn't necessitate the need for an eponymous category. WP:OCEPON. StarcheerspeaksnewslostwarsTalk to me 21:47, 17 May 2019 (UTC)
- Delete - per usual. Oculi (talk) 08:43, 18 May 2019 (UTC)

Category:The Disciples of Apocalypse
- Nominator's rationale: Only 4 pages, none will be added. Category is not needed Galatz גאליץשיחה Talk 15:08, 17 May 2019 (UTC)
- Keep: I don't believe number of articles in a category is a measure of its importance. The Disciples of Apocalypse as a stable was active for two years, similar to the Nation of Domination which has a category of its own. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 16:19, 17 May 2019 (UTC)
- Rename to Category:The Disciples of Apocalypse members per most of Category:WWE teams and stables. Oculi (talk) 19:03, 17 May 2019 (UTC)
- Comment - Oculi, That I can do. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 10:34, 18 May 2019 (UTC)
- @Fylindfotberserk: Since when are categories based on how long a stable has been together? Number of articles is a key factor in whether or not there should be a category. I think you are confusing WP:N for articles with categories. - Galatz גאליץשיחה Talk 15:27, 20 May 2019 (UTC)
- @Galatz: If the number of articles is the only factor then why Blue World Order CAT is still here with only 6 entries and Road Warriors with only 9 entries? Obviously WP:N is relevant. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 15:47, 20 May 2019 (UTC)
- @Fylindfotberserk: No, WP:N deals with notability of articles, not categories. Typically categories with under 5 pages are not created, regardless of how long the topic existed for. Also WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS is not a reason to keep something. - Galatz גאליץשיחה Talk 15:49, 20 May 2019 (UTC)
- @Galatz: Point me to a policy/consensus/guideline which says categories with less than 5 entries should not be created. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 16:05, 20 May 2019 (UTC)
- @Fylindfotberserk: I suggest you read WP:OVERCAT, but WP:SMALLCAT would be a good starting point. - Galatz גאליץשיחה Talk 16:24, 20 May 2019 (UTC)
- @Galatz: Actually I was asking you to point me to a consensus or policy which "explicitly" mentions that any cat with less than "5 entries" should not be created.
- Now, WP:SMALLCAT writes,
Avoid categories that, by their very definition, will never have more than a few members, unless such categories are part of a large overall accepted sub-categorization scheme,...
. Point is -
- How much is "few members"? A rather vague statement. I can very well consider 6 entries in The Blue World Order members (only 2 more than DoA) to be "few members" and tag it for deletion. And Category:The Road Warriors members also has only 9 entries.
- The above guideline is also exempt from sub-categorization and The Disciples of Apocalypse is a Sub-CAT of WWE teams and stables.
- Having said that, I'll stand by my words. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 16:59, 20 May 2019 (UTC)
- There are thousands of categories with 1 article; look eg in Category:Albums by artist, Category:Novels by writer etc. Or Category:Musicians by band (where 1 is insufficient, 2 is borderline but 3 is fine), which may be relevant. Oculi (talk) 14:45, 24 May 2019 (UTC)
- @Oculi: Yes, but those are specific exceptions in WP:SMALLCAT, this is not a common place category. If you look at Category:Professional wrestling teams and stables there are hundred of articles but very few categories for them. - Galatz גאליץשיחה Talk 15:12, 24 May 2019 (UTC)
- Delete per WP:SMALLCAT, although the guideline is imprecise a minimum of 5 is used in practice a lot. A cut-off like 5 makes perfect sense to the extent that an article will mention ~4 members in one the opening sentences of the article, while ~10 members would be too many to mention in a opening sentence. In addition, the SMALLCAT exception does not apply, per Galatz. Marcocapelle (talk) 10:18, 25 May 2019 (UTC)
- How? WP:SMALLCAT doesn't apply to Sub-CATSs as per its policy. I wonder how The Blue World Order members is totally OK which has only 2 more entries than The Disciples of Apocalypse. I really wish we had a guideline explicitly mentioning there need to be atleast 5 entries for a CAT. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 14:19, 25 May 2019 (UTC)
- SMALLCAT does not apply when there is a full diffusion scheme being applied, e.g. by nationality. That is not the case here. Marcocapelle (talk) 04:16, 28 May 2019 (UTC)

- Propose renaming Category:Ring of Honor stables and teams to Category:Ring of Honor teams and stables
- Nominator's rationale: Consistent with all other categories in Category:American promotions teams and stables Galatz גאליץשיחה Talk 14:12, 17 May 2019 (UTC)

- The result of the discussion was: delete. Those who defend the category have not explained why this category defies the usual application of WP:OCEPON. A large number of pages within sub-categories does not provide a rationale to keep a sparsely-populated parent. – Fayenatic London 14:25, 1 June 2019 (UTC)
- Nominator's rationale: WP:OCEPON --woodensuperman 08:06, 10 May 2019 (UTC)
- Oppose, Keep, because this categories for people are very important and necessary. They significantly improve the navigation in the field of speculative fiction and play a unifying role for all topics related to these writers.--Yasnodark (talk) 12:59, 10 May 2019 (UTC)

- I just invited users to discuss.--Yasnodark (talk) 13:23, 10 May 2019 (UTC)
- Delete per WP:OCEPON. The works are already categorised appropriately. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 13:15, 10 May 2019 (UTC)
- The category contains 2 subcategories and one article, in my opinion this is quite enough and the reader can see them together in this category.--Yasnodark (talk) 13:21, 10 May 2019 (UTC)
- This is not enough to satisfy WP:OCEPON, which states
"even most notable people lack enough directly related articles or subcategories to populate eponymous categories effectively"
. --woodensuperman 13:41, 10 May 2019 (UTC)

- Comment: if this is deleted, then "see also" links should be added between the sub-categories (and between those and the article, if not already present). – Fayenatic London 13:57, 10 May 2019 (UTC)
- Keep. I think having eleven (twelve, if you count the article about the author) articles is enough to have a category for the person. If it were only 3-4 articles, it would be different. I think this meets the nebulous threshold established by WP:OCEPON. ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WP Japan! 17:09, 10 May 2019 (UTC)
- Keep - per Nihonjoe above. Oculi (talk) 20:59, 10 May 2019 (UTC)
- Fully Support Deletion - There is ZERO need for this category. I am going to repeat word for word what I just posted below regarding Category:William Goldman:
- Even the "other" subcat, Category:Films based on works by Philip Wylie, belongs quite properly in Category:Works by Philip Wylie, which I have just added as a parent. Ordinarily, I would have gone ahead and finished the job by removing the redundant parent, Category:Philip Wylie, but I left it there purely out of consideration for this discussion. The bottom line is, Category:Works by Philip Wylie is absolutely all that is needed to provide a home for all of the subcategories. Keeping *this* category would fly in the face of The.Most.Basic. of all criteria for creation of valid categories, eponymous or otherwise. Anomalous+0 (talk) 10:30, 11 May 2019 (UTC)
- Delete, after Anomalous+0's previous addition, the Works subcategory appears to be sufficient. Marcocapelle (talk) 15:50, 11 May 2019 (UTC)
- Category Category:Films based on works by Philip Wylie cannot be placed in Category:Works by Philip Wylie category because the first one is about films and the second one is about literary works. These are parallel categories and they should be united by the category Category:Philip Wylie. Films cann`t be in the category of books.--Yasnodark (talk) 15:43, 15 May 2019 (UTC)
- These films can very well be a subcategory since they are based on these books. Marcocapelle (talk) 19:38, 15 May 2019 (UTC)

- Delete per WP:OCEPON. The "works by" categorization scheme is not just for literary works. The novels should be placed in Category:Novels by Philip Wylie, which in turn can be added to Category:Works by Philip Wylie, and still no need for the eponymous parent/grandparent. - Nominator's rationale: Categories for the WikiProject Merge assessment department, a department that never got off the ground and never tagged a single article. Trialpears (talk) 12:16, 17 May 2019 (UTC)
- Delete. Not quite true that the project "never got off the ground or tagged an article". Template:WikiProject Merge Copied populated these categories. I boldly removed the Assessment section from Wikipedia:WikiProject Merge in January 2016 per
Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Merge/Archive 1#Merge Portal and Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/Portal:Merge, there is no clear need or consensus for Wikipedia:WikiProject Merge/Assessment
. Also this edit to Wikipedia:WikiProject Merge/PMGTPGT with the rationaleWe shouldn't make mainspace pages a permanent part of {WikiProject Merge}. Once a merge proposal is resolved, our interest in the page is done. {WikiProject Merge} should only tag pages that are part of administration of the merge project itself.
I removed Template:WikiProject Merge and Template:WikiProject Merge Copied from the relatively few Talk: namespace pages that transcluded them in January 2016. EXAMPLE. See the bottom of this version to note the cats it populated. I made a few edits that depopulated these categories, but then I never got around to putting them up for deletion. In any event assessing "quality" and "importance" represents too much "scope creep" for the merge project. There should be some sort of triage to prioritize merges by need. Parallel biographies of the same person should be given high priority for merging, regardless of the quality or importance of the article itself. It's unclear whether "importance" refers to the content or importance of the article itself, or the importance of the need to merge it. – wbm1058 (talk) 19:43, 19 May 2019 (UTC)

Category:Musers
- Nominator's rationale: No clear indication of what purpose this category serves. Added subjects seem to be a hodgepodge of YouTubers with different areas of interest from singing to large hair bows. While I'm not suggesting any nefarious motivation by the category creator, this category seems like an "in spirit" contravention of WP:NEOLOGISM, since "muser" is not a common modern term and without any context or explanation, we're lumping people into this category, when it's so vague it could indiscriminately encapsulate thousands of people. I am not inflexible, so if others have strong arguments for why it should exist and for why it's not just a marketing neologism, I'll happily consider standing aside. Category:The Office (UK TV series) episodes
