Mezőkovácsháza is a town in Békés County, in the Southern Great Plain region of south-east Hungary.
The mother of General Benny Gantz, the current Chief of General Staff of the Israel Defense Forces, was born in the Jewish community of Mezőkovácsháza. During the Holocaust she was deported to a Nazi extermination camp, survived and after the war went to the then Mandatory Palestine.
Geography
It covers an area of 62.59 square kilometres (24.17 square miles) and has a population of 6945 people (2002).
