Template:Infobox Digimon Agumon is a fictional character from the Digimon media franchise, which comprises toys, video games, trading card games and several anime series. He is a Reptile Digimon and is a sort of mascot for the Digimon universe, as he and his Digivolutionary forms are featured in almost all Digimon media and in the majority of Digimon merchandise. The name Agumon is partly derived from the Japanese word agurabana, which describes a large, flat nose, and from the suffix -mon (short for "monster") which all Digimon carry at the end of their names. Thus, Agumon is literally a "large, flat-nosed monster."

As he is a de facto mascot for the Digimon franchise Agumon is often used as the partner of the lead DigiDestined, a child chosen by a benevolent being (usually one or more Mega level Digimon) to save the Digital World, the plane on which all Digimon live.[1] A list of humans Agumon is partner to in anime includes Taichi Kamiya ("Tai" for short) in Digimon Adventure and Masaru Daimon in Digimon Savers; in manga he is the partner of Tsurugi Tatsuno in Digimon Next; in a Chinese manhua, D-Cyber, he is partnered with Teru Raku. In Digimon Adventure and Adventure 02 he was voiced by Chika Sakamoto (Japanese) and Tom Fahn (English). For Savers (which is currently airing) he is voiced by Matsuno Taiki (Japanese).

Description

Agumon is a short and stout dinosaur-like Digimon standing about 2½ feet tall. His skin is a bright orange and his eyes, which are large and disc-shaped, are light green. His forearms are noticeably larger than his upper arms because they are comprised entirely of his broad, three-clawed hands.[2] His large feet sport three claws as well. Of all the Digimon Adventure Rookies, Agumon is the only one to be drawn with distinct pectoral muscles. His tail is fat and stubby, and his head and muzzle are almost as large as the rest of his body. A small earhole is visible on each side of his head.

His Virus form, BlackAgumon, has smoky black skin and a more "ferocious personality"[3] than the normal Agumon. In Digimon Battle Spirit there is an Extra Agumon, which is simply a term for the unlockable Agumon that has Omnimon as a Digivolution. His and BlackAgumon's alternate color schemes in this game include reddish-pink, blue, and green.

The Agumon featured in Digimon Savers has a slightly different design, with more teeth, longer claws, wider forearms and red training bracers. His nostrils are very different from Adventure's Agumon; whereas that Agumon had well-defined nostrils, this one has two oval-shaped holes on the front of his muzzle. He is much larger than the original Agumon, about as tall as a human adolescent. The Agumon in Digimon Next sports the training bracers but otherwise keeps the original design.

Agumon X, Agumon modified by the X-Antibody, is larger in size and has larger claws than the original Agumon. Also, he has blue stripes running down his body. His standard attack changes from Pepper Breath/Baby Flame to Baby Burner.

There is a variation of Agumon in Digimon Story called DotAgumon; essentially, it's a pixilated version of Agumon resembling what would be seen on the LCD screen of a Digimon virtual pet. Its only use in the game is to be an easy way to obtain Koromon. Koromon can then Digivolve into more powerful forms, like the regular Agumon for example.

Digivolution

Agumon's original Digivolution line, as seen in Digimon Adventure and Digimon Adventure 02:

An important point of partner Digivolution is that the mental state of the DigiDestined affects how the Digimon will evolve. In the first Adventure series Tai once made Greymon evolve to the Ultimate level through sheer force of will. However, because Tai was exhibiting feelings of fear and helplessness instead of Courage, his DigiDestined trait, Greymon Digivolved to SkullGreymon,[6] an evil counterpart to MetalGreymon, Greymon’s true Ultimate.

In the second half of Digimon Adventure and parts of Adventure 02 Agumon has the ability to Warp Digivolve, meaning he can Digivolve straight from the Rookie to the Mega level. In other words, he becomes WarGreymon immediately without having to Digivolve to Greymon and then MetalGreymon first.

In Digimon Savers, Agumon's Digivolution line is:

In the Digimon card game and the Digimon virtual pet, alternate Champion forms of Agumon include Angemon, Birdramon, Boarmon, Flarerizamon, Garurumon, Growlmon, Ice Devimon, Kyuubimon, Leomon, Maildramon, Meramon, Numemon, Sepikmon, Stingmon, Togemon, Tyrannomon, Veedramon, and ExVeemon. He can Digivolve to AncientGreymon as an alternate Mega form.

Teru Raku's Agumon (which possesses the X-Antibody) gains the ability to become Omekamon in the D-Cyber manhua, making that Digimon one of Agumon's canon Digivolutions.

In the original Digimon Battle Pets, which was released in 1997, two years before Digimon Adventure first aired, Agumon's Digivolution line was:

Attacks

In the anime, the only attacks Agumon is ever shown to use are Pepper Breath[7] in Adventure/Adventure 02 and Baby Burner in Savers. All other listed attacks are found in the video games and card games.

  • Pepper Breath/Pepper Flame (Baby Flame): Shoots an orange ball of flames of varying strength from his mouth.
  • Baby Burner: A more powerful stream of fire coming from his mouth. In Digimon Next, Agumon can only perform this attack with a boost of power from Tsurugi's DigiSoul.[8]

His other attacks, shown in the Digimon card games and other merchandise, are:

  • Claw Attack: (Sharp Claws) Swipes with his claws.[9]
  • Cross Fire: Rapidly bites his enemy while charging.[10]
  • Dynamite Kick: Leaps into the air and rapidly kicks.[11]
  • Moon Tracer
  • Concentration Reservoir[12]
  • Spitfire

Digimon Adventure (Movie)

The Digimon Advenute feature film was released in theaters on March 6, 1999, a day before the series' first episode aired.[13] It takes place four years prior to the events of the series. A different Agumon from the one that appears in the series drives the storyline: He entered the Real World (another name for planet Earth) as a Digi-Egg[14] in the house of the Kamiyas, where Tai and his younger sister Kari were playing in their bedroom. The Digi-Egg hatched into a Botamon who Digivolved to Koromon, Agumon and eventually Greymon. The Greymon then battled and defeated Parrotmon, who had also mysteriously appeared in the Real World. The real significance of that fight was that only DigiDestined children could sense or see it all; all other people remained completely oblivious. All eight of the first season’s DigiDestined witnessed the battle.

Digimon Adventure

Agumon and Taichi were the main DigiDestined/Digimon partner team in Digimon Adventure, the first Digimon anime series. The premise of this series was that eight such teams were chosen by the Digimon Sovereigns to save DigiWorld (a nickname for "Digital World" used in the anime) and eventually Earth from destruction via Apocalymon, who was bent on inflicting his personal torment onto every living thing.[15] The children learn lessons about survival–and about themselves–as they travel to various locales to defeat whatever evil arises.

Being the partner of the leader of the DigiDestined,[16] Agumon was a decisive factor in many battles. When he became the first of the partner Digimon to go Ultimate and Digivolved to MetalGreymon,[17] it was he who initially defeated Etemon, a great nuisance to the DigiDestined in early episodes.[18]

Later, during the Myotismon saga in which the Ultimate level Digimon appeared in and caused havoc on the Real World,[19] the DigiDestined could not defeat him because he Digivolved to his Mega level, VenomMyotismon. It was not until Agumon and Gabumon (the partner of Yamato "Matt" Ishida) respectively Warp Digivolved to WarGreymon and MetalGarurumon[20] that VenomMyotismon was destroyed.[21]

The DigiDestined were sent to DigiWorld once more to combat the Dark Masters, whose members were MetalSeadramon, Puppetmon, Machinedramon and Piedmon, their leader.[22] As WarGreymon, Agumon killed MetalSeadramon by boring through him with his Dramon Destroyers, the light-grey protrusions on the claws of WarGreymon’s hand armor.[23][24] Puppetmon was defeated by MetalGarurumon,[25] but WarGreymon quickly sliced up Machinedramon after he was given a boost of power by Kari’s Crest of Light.[26][27] The battle against Piedmon was fierce and required the help of Patamon’s Ultimate MagnaAngemon. When MagnaAngemon evoked his attack, Gate of Destiny, WarGreymon and MetalGarurumon knocked Piedmon into it. The gate sealed and self-deleted, destroying Piedmon as well.[28]

When Apocalymon suddenly appeared he deleted the Digimon and DigiDestined and sent them to a formless dimension. He also destroyed their Tags (another Digivolution aid) and Crests, which led the children to believe that it was impossible to defeat him. After some introspection they realized that they had never needed their Tags or Crests to get their Digimon to evolve. The power was within themselves.[29] Thus, Agumon and the other Rookies Digivolved to their highest forms not to defeat Apocalymon outright, but to contain his kamikaze attack which he intended to use to destroy himself, Earth, and DigiWorld. They successfully prevented his attack from destroying anything else, and Earth and the Digital World were saved.[30]

Digimon Adventure Original Story

Digimon Adventure Original Story is a CD Drama released in Japan on April 23, 2003.[31] On Taichi’s track it is explained that Agumon was able to talk with him for a short while in November of 1999 after a temporary connection opened on Tai's computer.

Our War Game!

Our War Game! is the second Digimon Adventure movie, released on March 4, 2000.[32] In it Agumon and Tai teamed up with Matt, Gabumon, Tentomon, and Patamon to go inside the Internet and battle Infermon, an evil Digimon living there. All four Digimon were defeated when Infermon Digivolved to Diaboromon, his Mega. Diaboromon then proceeded to make an infinite number of clones of itself, enough to destroy Earth along with the Internet. Tentomon’s partner Izzy Izumi devised a plan: If he could get people from around the world to send encouraging e-mails, the bandwith being sent back and forth would slow the Diaboromon down. The plan worked, and Agumon and Gabumon Warp DNA Digivolved to Omnimon and killed the original Diaboromon by stabbing him with the Transcendent Sword, one of Omnimon’s attacks. When the main Diaboromon died the clones disappeared.[33]

In May of 2001 Tai and Agumon were reunited only long enough so that Tai could give up his Crest power to free the Digimon Sovereigns. As a result, Agumon lost the power to Digivolve to the Ultimate and Mega level.

Digimon Adventure 02

File:Agumonadv.jpg

In Digimon Adventure 02, the sequel series to Digimon Adventure, five new DigiDestined were chosen from the start, with one, Ken Ichijouji, joining the team after he gave up his evil Digimon Emperor persona.[34] The plot began in the first episode with Agumon sending a distress call to Tai.[35] Tai went to Digiworld[36] and found Agumon, who explained that the Digimon Emperor had been taking control of Digimon and that he could not Digivolve because of strange structures strewn throughout DigiWorld called Dark Towers. Only the new DigiDestined found a way around this, via an ancient process called Armor Digivolution. In the ninth episode [37] Agumon was captured by the Digimon Emperor and was forced to Dark Digivolve to SkullGreymon, and in the next episode[38] to an evil version of MetalGreymon. Tai, Matt and the new DigiDestined worked together to free him.[39] The next evil Agumon had to contend with was the troubled BlackWarGreymon, initially on friendly terms.[40] However, Agumon was forced to Warp Digivolve to WarGreymon and battle him when he went to the Real World and tried to kill Yukio Oikawa.[41][42] The battle ended in a draw when Imperialdramon Fighter Mode, a Mega level fusion of Veemon and Wormmon who are the partners of Davis Motomiya and Ken respectively, broke up the fight with a blast of his Positron Laser. The fight with BlackWargreymon was the last major action Agumon took in the series.

Revenge of Diaboromon

Revenge of Diaboromon is the second Adventure 02 movie and takes place three months after the end of the series. Diaboromon resurfaced on the Internet, forcing Agumon, Tai, Gabumon and Matt to travel into the Internet once more. As Omnimon, Agumon and Gabumon destroyed Diaboromon again, but this time he split apart into innumerable Kuramon, who entered the Real World and fused together to form Armageddemon. Armageddemon soundly defeated Omnimon; Imperialdramon came into the battle but had trouble fighting Armageddemon himself. He had to Mode Change to Imperialdramon Paladin Mode to destroy the evil Digimon.

Digimon Savers

This Agumon, different from the one who appears in the two Adventure series, is the partner of Masaru Daimon, the main character in Digimon Savers. Digimon Savers began airing on April 4, 2006, three years after Digimon Frontier, the previous Digimon series. The Agumon in Savers adores Masaru and likes to follow him around, considering himself to be his follower and referring to Masaru as his "aniki" – Literally, "big brother," but used with the same connotation as in the Japanese Yakuza, where it means "boss." During their first battle, against Kokatorimon,[43] Agumon evolved into GeoGreymon by receiving Masaru's DigiSoul. When Agumon is discovered by Masaru’s family in the next episode he is accepted by them surprisingly quickly and is given free reign of the Daimon household.[44][45] When Mercurimon became a threat and reverted Biyomon, the partner of Masaru’s little sister Chika to a DigiEgg, Masaru became enraged and evoked a DigiSoul powerful enough for GeoGreymon to evolve to the Ultimate level Digimon RizeGreymon. Digimon Savers is ongoing, but it has been revealed via the Digivice iC toy that this Agumon's Mega is ShineGreymon. 10 Years Ago as told by SaberLeomon to the Gotsumon that worked for Mercurimon, the original Agumon was among the victims of the humans who were deleting Digimon. Digimon Next

Digimon Next is the most recent Digimon manga that has been serialized in V-Jump, a popular graphic novel and video game magazine. It started its run on December 17, 2005. Initially partnered with Tsurugi Tatsuno as Greymon, this Agumon appeared after a battle with Peckmon in which Piximon De-Digivolved Greymon to the Rookie level. He becomes helpful to Tsurugi and later gains the ability to evolve to GeoGreymon.

D-Cyber

This manhua features an Agumon X (hereafter referred to as "Agumon") who is the partner of Teru Raku. When Teru was controlled by MetalPhantomon, Agumon first appeared as a MetalGreymon X to save him. Later, Teru managed to get Agumon to become Greymon X. After receiving power from the Holy Knights, Agumon gains Omekamon as a Champion Digivolution.
