Caroline Springs railway station is a railway station under construction on the Serviceton line in Victoria, Australia. Construction of the new single-platform station commenced in August 2015 and the station is scheduled to open in 2016.[1][2]

History

The Government, as part of its Victorian Transport Plan (released in 2008), announced the progressive upgrade of the Melton line to support future urban development in the corridor. Construction of the station was to have commenced in 2010 and be completed in 2012.[3]

After the 2010 state election, the Baillieu Government put construction on hold.[4] An access road to the site had been partially constructed.[5][6] Construction of a bridge over the rail line had to be completed to serve the nearby Boral Quarry which otherwise would have been isolated by the new Regional Rail Link tracks that run north-south across them.

In May 2014, in the run-up to the 2014 state election, the Napthine Government announced that construction would commence in 2014 with a scheduled 2016 completion date.[7] There was a change of government at the election and construction actually commenced in August 2015.[2]

Platforms & services
