William Jesse Corbett (21 February 1938-2003) was an English children’s author. Born and raised in Birmingham, he joined the Merchant Navy at the age of 16 and later tried out many other professions. He then decided to become a writer and wrote the bestselling book The Song of Pentecost which won the Whitbread Award in the children’s category. He followed this up with two further books in the Pentecost trilogy and several other books.

He died in February 2003.
