The Fairfield Aviation General Supply Depot is a former Aviation Section, U.S. Signal Corps military facility, located adjacent to Wilbur Wright Field in Riverside, Ohio.
History
After their successful experiements at Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, in 1904-05 the Wright brothers set up their experimental flying field on Huffman Prairie near their home in Dayton, Ohio where they developed a workable airplane (Wright Flyer III). It is also where they set up their flying school.
The United States Army Signal Corps purchased the field in 1917 and it was renamed Wilbur Wright Field. Adjacent to it in order to provide support, the Fairfield Aviation General Supply Depot, were established in the general area.
In 1927, the two facilities were merged and renamed Wright Field in honor of the Wright brothers and became headquarters for the Material Division of the United States Army Air Corps.
The location of Fairfield Depot is now the National Museum of the United States Air Force.
