Sir Richard Jenkins G.C.B., D.C.L., J.P., D.L., (1785–1853) was Member of Parliament for Shrewsbury in 1837 until 1841 and also Chairman of the East India Company in 1839.[1]
Personal life
Richard Jenkins was the eldest son of Richard Jenkins of Bicton Hall, Shropshire. Sir Richard was born at Cruckton, near Shrewsbury, on 18 February 1785.[2] Married Elizabeth Helen, daughter of Hugh Spottiswoode, H.E.I.C.C.S.Father of Colonel Richard Jenkins of the 1st Bengal Cavalry.[3][4]
Career
Jenkins was at the battle of Seetabuldee and also the capture of Nagpore.
Honours
Sir Richard was invested as a Knight Grand Cross, Order of the Bath (G.C.B.)[5] Awarded the Third Mahratta War medal.
He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society and, in 1841, a Fellow of the Royal Society [6]
