2006 Winter Olympics
- Ice hockey: Canada defeats Sweden 4-1 in the women's final, winning its second straight Olympic gold medal in the event.
- Alpine skiing: Benjamin Raich of Austria comes from fifth place in the first run to win the men's giant slalom event after two runs. Austrian teammate Michaela Dorfmeister wins gold in the women's super-g two hours later.
