2006 Winter Olympics
- Alpine skiing: 21-year-old Ted Ligety of the United States wins gold in the men's combined event. Ivica Kostelić of Croatia and Rainer Schönfelder of Austria take silver and bronze, respectively.
- Cross-country skiing: Sweden captures gold in both the men's and the women's classic style team sprints.
