Ian Jack (born 7 February 1945) is a Scottish journalist who was the editor of the literary magazine Granta from 1995 to 2007. Granta 98 "The Deep End" was the 48th issue he edited and the last.
After working on a weekly newspaper in Scotland in the 1960s, Jack worked from 1970 to 1986 at The Sunday Times as a reporter, editor, feature writer and foreign correspondent.
He was a co-founder of the Independent on Sunday in 1989 and edited the paper from 1991 to 1995. He left Granta at the end of May 2007 and now writes regularly for The Guardian.
He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature in 2009.[1]
He lives in London with his wife and two children, and recently released a book of published and unpublished writings called The Country Formerly Known as Great Britain.
