Utzenstorf is a municipality in the administrative district of Emmental in the canton of Bern in Switzerland. It is regionally famous for its medieval castle, Schloss Landschut.

Demographics

Utzenstorf has a population (as of 31 December 2020) of 4,430.[4] As of 2007, 6.3% of the population was made up of foreign nationals. Over the last 10 years the population has grown at a rate of 13%. Most of the population (as of 2000) speaks German (95.5%), with Italian being second most common ( 0.7%) and Albanian being third ( 0.7%).

In the 2007 election the most popular party was the SVP which received 38.9% of the vote. The next three most popular parties were the SPS (22.1%), the FDP (15.5%) and the Green Party (10.4%).

The age distribution of the population (as of 2000) is children and teenagers (0–19 years old) make up 24.7% of the population, while adults (20–64 years old) make up 59.6% and seniors (over 64 years old) make up 15.7%. The entire Swiss population is generally well educated. In Utzenstorf about 76.5% of the population (between age 25-64) have completed either non-mandatory upper secondary education or additional higher education (either University or a Fachhochschule).

Utzenstorf has an unemployment rate of 1.45%. As of 2005, there were 142 people employed in the primary economic sector and about 48 businesses involved in this sector. 805 people are employed in the secondary sector and there are 51 businesses in this sector. 727 people are employed in the tertiary sector, with 95 businesses in this sector.[5]
