Signau is a municipality in the administrative district of Emmental in the canton of Bern in Switzerland.

Signau lies in the Emmental.

Of the rest of the land, Template:Km2 to mi2 or 8.0% is settled (buildings or roads), Template:Km2 to mi2 or 1.1% is either rivers or lakes and Template:Km2 to mi2 or 0.0% is unproductive land.[3]

Demographics

Signau has a population (as of 31 December 2020) of 2,594.[4] As of 2007, 3.6% of the population was made up of foreign nationals. Over the last 10 years the population has decreased at a rate of -3.7%. Most of the population (as of 2000) speaks German (95.2%), with Albanian being second most common ( 1.8%) and French being third ( 0.6%).

In the 2007 election the most popular party was the SVP which received 50.1% of the vote. The next three most popular parties were the SPS (13.3%), the FDP (9.1%) and the CSP (8.7%).

The age distribution of the population (as of 2000) is children and teenagers (0–19 years old) make up 27% of the population, while adults (20–64 years old) make up 58.7% and seniors (over 64 years old) make up 14.3%. The entire Swiss population is generally well educated. In Signau about 70.5% of the population (between age 25-64) have completed either non-mandatory upper secondary education or additional higher education (either University or a Fachhochschule).

Signau has an unemployment rate of 0.62%. As of 2005, there were 371 people employed in the primary economic sector and about 127 businesses involved in this sector. 291 people are employed in the secondary sector and there are 40 businesses in this sector. 332 people are employed in the tertiary sector, with 60 businesses in this sector.[5]
