Archeology

Traces of early Bronze and late Bronze Ages in Hagneck marshland, part of the Grand Marais as well as from the Middle Ages (discovered during the construction of the Hagnek channel and adjacent facilities). The digging out of the hill that separated the marshes from the lake resulted in the destruction of a drainage pipe from the Romans, probably, which was 200 m long. It appears as if the site of a medieval castle removed. There is still a stretch of the ancient Roman road that led from Vinelz to Täuffelen.

History

Hagneck is first mentioned in 1353 as Hagneg.[6]

Hagnek was part of the parish of Täuffelen. Suzerainty passed in 1398 to the Counts of Neuchâtel - Nidau in Bern (district Epsach in the prefecture of Nidau). The field of Hagneck., who had four houses in 1783, belonged to the Bernese patricians (von Erlach, von May), as a lent-out stronghold of Nidau. Its inhabitants had a right to grazing Hägen, and rights of use in the forest of Hagnek: Those rights were upheld 1527 against the claims of the Ins population. Their activities consisting dominantly of cereal crops and fisheries.

Today's Hagneck

The municipality was created in 1840, but remained tied to Täuffelen in school and church matters. The Hagneck channel (1873–1878), which crosses the territory of the commune, the channel of the power station (opened in 1899) and the network of drainage Länggraben (1925–1937) transformed the landscape, while allowing the cultivation of the former marshes. Today, agriculture, arts and crafts and the power plant occupy a third of the population. The other two thirds work outside (regions Biel/Bienne and Bern). In 1916 the railway-Bienne Täuffelen-Ins was inaugurated.
