Belprahon is a municipality in the Jura bernois administrative district in the canton of Bern in Switzerland. It is located in the French-speaking Bernese Jura (Jura Bernois).

History

Belprahon was known asTiefenbach though this name is no longer used.[3]

Geography

Belprahon has a population (as of 31 December 2020) of 279.[5] As of 2007, 1.9% of the population was made up of foreign nationals. Over the last 10 years the population has grown at a rate of 0.3%. Most of the population (as of 2000) speaks French (88.1%), with German being second most common ( 6.4%) and Italian being third ( 1.8%).

In the 2007 election the most popular party was the SPS which received 31.9% of the vote. The next three most popular parties were the SVP (28.5%), the FDP (20%) and the CVP (12.4%).

The age distribution of the population (as of 2000) is children and teenagers (0–19 years old) make up 24.4% of the population, while adults (20–64 years old) make up 60.7% and seniors (over 64 years old) make up 14.9%. The entire Swiss population is generally well educated. In Belprahon about 77.9% of the population (between age 25-64) have completed either non-mandatory upper secondary education or additional higher education (either University or a Fachhochschule).

Belprahon has an unemployment rate of 0.96%. As of 2005, there were 9 people employed in the primary economic sector and about 4 businesses involved in this sector. 14 people are employed in the secondary sector and there are 3 businesses in this sector. 53 people are employed in the tertiary sector, with 10 businesses in this sector.[6] The historical population is given in the following table:[3]
