Egg is a municipality in the district of Uster in the canton of Zürich in Switzerland.
History
Egg is first mentioned in 775 as Echa.[3]
Geography
Egg has an area of Template:Km2 to mi2. Of this area, 58.1% is used for agricultural purposes, while 23.2% is forested. Of the rest of the land, 18.1% is settled (buildings or roads) and the remainder (0.6%) is non-productive (rivers, glaciers or mountains).[4] In 1996[update] housing and buildings made up 12.9% of the total area, while transportation infrastucture made up the rest (5.2%).[5] Of the total unproductive area, water (streams and lakes) made up 0.3% of the area. As of 2007[update] 12.8% of the total municipal area was undergoing some type of construction.[5]
The lowest elevation in the municipality is the Greifensee at Template:M to ft. The highest point in the municipality is the Pfannenstiel at Template:M to ft.
Egg is located in the Pfannenstiel region.[6]
Districts
There are three villages in Egg: Hinteregg (population: 1,500), Egg (population: 4,800) and Esslingen (population: 1,500). There are also smaller settlements (called Aussenwacht): Rällikon, Innervollikon, Usservollikon, Niederesslingen, Rohr, Schaubigen, Eichholz, Neuhaus, and Guldenen.
