Most of the population ({{as of|2000|lc=on}}) speaks German (94.3%), with Serbo-croatian being second most common ( 1.1%) and Albanian being third ( 1.0%).

In the 2007 election the most popular party was the [[Swiss People's Party|SVP]] which received 29.2% of the vote. The next three most popular parties were the [[Social Democratic Party of Switzerland|SPS]] (19.9%), the [[Free Democratic Party of Switzerland|FDP]] (18.8%) and the [[Green Party of Switzerland|Green Party]] (13.2%).
