The municipality has grown together with [[Brügg BE|Brügg]] and [[Studen]]. It is located on the right bank of the [[Nidau-Büren Channel]].

Most of the population ({{as of|2000|lc=on}}) speaks German (90.9%), with French being second most common ( 4.2%) and Italian being third ( 1.3%).

In the 2007 election the most popular party was the [[Swiss People's Party|SVP]] which received 34.2% of the vote. The next three most popular parties were the [[Social Democratic Party of Switzerland|SPS]] (23.9%), the [[Free Democratic Party of Switzerland|FDP]] (17%) and the [[Green Party of Switzerland|Green Party]] (7.1%).

History
