Oppligen has an area of {{km2 to mi2|3.4|abbr=on}}. Of this area, 58.5% is used for agricultural purposes, while 29.7% is forested. Of the rest of the land, 11.2% is settled (buildings or roads) and the remainder (0.6%) is non-productive (rivers, glaciers or mountains).<ref name=SFSO/>

The municipality is located in the the lower ''Kiesental'' and ''Rotachental'' (Kiesen and Rotachen Valleys) and includes the village of Oppligen and the [[hamlet (place)|hamlet]] of Rotachen.

Oppligen has a population ({{as of|2007|lc=on}}) of 627, of which 3.7% are foreign nationals. Over the last 10 years the population has grown at a rate of 8.5%. Most of the population ({{as of|2000|lc=on}}) speaks German (97.1%), with French being second most common ( 0.5%) and Portugese being third ( 0.5%).

In the election the most popular party was the [[Swiss People's Party|SVP]] which received 38.5% of the vote. The next three most popular parties were the [[Green Party of Switzerland|Green Party]] (16.8%), the [[Social Democratic Party of Switzerland|SPS]] (16.4%) and the [[Free Democratic Party of Switzerland|FDP]] (11.9%).

The age distribution of the population ({{as of|2000|lc=on}}) is children and teenagers (0-19 years old) make up 28.1% of the population, while adults (20-64 years old) make up 59% and seniors (over 64 years old) make up 12.9%. The entire Swiss population is generally well educated. History

Geography
