Mohammed Rafi 24 December 1924 – 31 July 1980 is probably the most famous Hindi Playback singer of yesteryears. He was born at Kotla Sultan Singh village near Amritsar in Punjab, now in Pakistan to a middle class Muslim family. In his lifetime the legend produced 26,000 super-hit Hindi songs, which are still listened to all over the world. People from various nations from India to Kenya to UK to West Indies were won over by his sweet warm melodies. He died after a massive heart attack.

His singing dominated the Bollywood arena during the period 1944 to 1980
