Template:Female adult bio Danielle Lloyd (born 16 December 1983, Liverpool) is an English lingerie and glamour model and former Miss England (2004) and Miss Great Britain (2006).[1]

She was stripped of her title of Miss Great Britain 2006 after posing for nude pictures featured in the December 2006 of Playboy magazine, and her tabloid-alleged affair with one of the judges, her footballer boyfriend at that time Teddy Sheringham.

As a participant in the 2007 series of Celebrity Big Brother, Lloyd, along with others, was accused of using bullying tactics and making racist comments directed against the Indian actress Shilpa Shetty.[2] According to reports from the tabloid News of the World, Sheringham decided to end his relationship with Lloyd as a result of her appearance on Celebrity Big Brother.[3]

Biography

Lloyd was born in Penny Lane, Liverpool in 1983. Her parents, Jackie and Arthur Lloyd, work as a bank manager and an engineer, respectively. At the age of 3 months, Lloyd contracted whooping cough, resulting in damage to her lungs. This led to her developing asthma.

She attended Haileybury school from 1995. At age 16 Lloyd began modeling, frequently entering competitions in and around Liverpool. Upon finishing school, she decided to pursue a dual career in modeling and as a beautician specializing in massage. She is also a qualified nail technician.

However, just as she was beginning her modeling career, Lloyd was brutally attacked by her boyfriend of the time, who is now a woman-Joan Regan. She was dragged from her moving car after an argument with him, suffering terrible abrasions and severe bruising to her body and losing most of her hair. Lloyd later said of the attack:

“Deep down you can’t forget what’s happened no matter how much counseling you have. You blame yourself and tell yourself you deserve it – I was given help when I most needed it and I want to be able to help others now. Too many women (1 in 4) suffer domestic violence at some time and support centres such as Women’s Aid aren’t able to answer all of the calls due to being under resourced. I'll always do all that I can to help raise awareness and help people. Being in a violent relationship, you are constantly living in fear – and that’s no way for anyone to live their life."[4]

Lloyd claims she was bullied in school however the headmaster of Lloyd's old school, St Hilda’s, Chris Yates said: "There's no recollection of her ever being persecuted she is lying and no teacher can ever recall any incidents where Danielle was bullied. In fact I’ve been lead [sic] to believe by her former friends that the opposite is true."[5]

Lloyd has had her 32AA breasts increased by surgery three times, and is presently a 32DD. During her last operation, when her old implants were replaced with newer, larger ones, taking her from a 32D to a 32DD, surgeons removed a benign lump in her right breast. Lloyd was worried that it was cancer, but doctors assured her that the lump was harmless. She has revealed that her third operation will be her last, claiming that it is "pointless" going any bigger and that "People say I want to be the new Jordan, but I definitely don't! I want to be myself. I don't mind her boobs but I think they could only suit her." [6] [7]

Pageantry

Lloyd was crowned Miss England on 17 July 2004[8] and competed at Miss World 2004.

On 26 February 2006, Lloyd was named Miss Great Britain 2006.[9].

On November 2, 2006, she was stripped of her title "following recent claims in the press and magazines and the publicity given on the Playboy Web site for their next issue", according to the Miss Great Britain website.[10] The claim they were referring to was that Lloyd had been dating Teddy Sheringham, who was one of the judges of the pageant, for more than two months before her victory. This was reported by the media after she allegedly said in an interview that Sheringham bought her a pair of shoes for Christmas.[11] Lloyd continues to claim that the relationship started after the pageant, and that the interview was made up. She attributes her topless shoot for the December 2006 issue of Playboy as the primary reason for the loss of her title.

On 11 January, 2007 it was revealed that Lloyd was being sued by the Miss Great Britain company for breaking her contract and bringing the company into disrepute. The company is asking for full revelation of the sums she earned for the Playboy pictures, plus costs.[12] She has since been cleared of any wrongdoing.

Lloyd was also the winner of "UK Best Breasts" 2006, and was a finalist in Miss Maxim 2006.

After Playboy

Lloyd made a memorable appearance on BBC One's Test the Nation. When asked "Who was Winston Churchill - a rapper, US President, the PM or King?", Lloyd answered "Wasn't he the first black president of America? There's a statue of him near me - that's black."[13]

Lloyd has recently appeared in FHM and Maxim magazines and before the Big Brother racism row wrote a column for celebrity spotlight.co.uk.

Celebrity Big Brother 5

Lloyd joined Celebrity Big Brother UK on January 3, 2007, at the start of the series. She said in her column in a magazine that, ironically: "Things I'm looking forward to in the house ...meeting people I'd probably never meet in everyday life, seeing if I can cope with the challenges and letting people at home see me in a different way (I'll be wearing more clothes!!)"[14]

Lloyd was the second housemate to enter the Big Brother House,[15] and had amongst her possessions a blue teddy bear doused in Sheringham's aftershave.

Racism and bullying

Lloyd garnered significant negative publicity when thousands of complaints were filed with Ofcom after she, Jade Goody and Jo O'Meara, were bullying and making racist remarks towards their fellow house mate, Bollywood star Shilpa Shetty.

Specific comments Lloyd has made about Shetty include "She's a dog" and "They eat with their hands in India, don't they – or is that China? You don't know where her hands have been."[16][17][18]. In another outburst, Lloyd said "do you get stubble?"[19]

On 17 January, 2007 Lloyd said Shetty should "f### off home", adding that "she can't even speak English properly".[20] Also, after a similar comment by Goody, Lloyd laughed and said to Goody: "That was f#####g fantastic, I loved it' I think she should f### off home."[21]When confronted by Big Brother in the Diary Room about why she made the comment, Lloyd said: "I don't know" and claimed she didn't recall saying it. She admitted that she must have said it for Big Brother to have asked her about it and added that it could be taken in a "bad" way. She concluded that she would talk to Shilpa to make sure she didn't feel excluded in the house, which she did the following morning.

Reaction

This behaviour also created an international outcry gaining heavy coverage in the Indian media. Gordon Brown, the British Chancellor of the Exchequer visiting India at the time, condemned the programme on the grounds that he is against anything which might damage the perception that the United Kingdom is a country of tolerance.[22] In a statement on January 17 Channel 4 defended the programme against charges "of overt racism or racial abuse".[23]

But Trevor Phillips, head of the Commission for Equality and Human Rights, said "What we are seeing is a noxious brew of old-fashioned class conflict, straightforward bullying, ignorance and quite vicious racial bigotry,". He doubted events on Celebrity Big Brother were part of a broader problem[24]

Lloyd's aunt directly accused her of racism, adding "It was disgusting the way Danielle treated Shilpa. I'm surprised Big Brother didn't throw her out of the house."[25]

A newspaper interview made before Celebrity Big Brother, from November 2006, revealed Lloyd's anti-immigration views: "If I was (a politician), I'd get more people into work and stop people coming into the country. There's so many people who come into England because they know they can get benefits. People who already live here should get the jobs".[26]

Loss of contracts, Sheringham

As a result of her behaviour on the show, Danielle Lloyd lost six-figure modelling contracts with motorcycle insurance firm Bennetts,[27] fashion label Rocawear;[28][29] and designer lingerie website BeCheeky.com among minor sponsors.[30]

In the immediate aftermath of Lloyd's appearance in Celebrity Big Brother, several tabloids reported that her then boyfriend, Teddy Sheringham, ended his relationship with her; the reasons for doing so include his own sense of disgust at her actions on the programme; the fact that he used to play in a team that is made up of over 50% non-white players(Colchester, near Seven Kings, Ilford); and because of his concern for the safety his own off-field commercial activities and reputation.[31]

After eviction

Before her eviction, Shilpa Shetty had already commented on Lloyd's behaviour in the Big Brother house, saying: "I let Danielle off because she is so young. They (Jade and Jo) made her look bad. You know what really balances it out for Danielle? Her stupidity. She's so innocent."[32]

Lloyd's mother said in the News of the World that her family has been "destroyed" by the racist row: "Danielle is at the start of her career and facing ruin because of a TV show that she thought was going to be entertaining and fun. Everything's been taken away from her as well. It has destroyed the family. I'm regretting she went in. Danielle has got a lot of questions to answer when she gets out." She denied her daughter was a racist, claiming: "She will be distraught but she's got to take responsibility. She's been stupid and naive and she's guilty of that (but) I know she didn't mean any racial connotations when she told Shilpa to go home. Danielle's been brought up amongst family friends of all different races. I swear she isn't racist."[33]

It also became apparent that Lloyd had been warned against racist behaviour prior to going into the house, in an email sent to her by her agent at the time, Angela de Fouw. [34]

Lloyd came fifth in the contest, with 3.3% of the vote to save her.[35]

During her post-eviction interview with Davina McCall she said "I feel terrible" and insisted her comments had nothing to do with skin colour. Lloyd apologised for her behaviour towards the Bollywood star, insisting her remarks had been made "in the heat of the moment. I wasn't laughing at Shilpa... it was just nerves. I hate confrontation." Asked what she had learned on the show, she said: "Not to be such a bitch."[36] Davina then replied, in a telling off kind of manner 'Good'.

Danielle has agreed in an attempt to revive her popularity to go on a 'date' with a competition winner. The Daily Star in promoting the article discusses how she wears 'plunging vest top and miniskirt.' when on a date and will willingly attend at any public house of the entrant's choice. [37]

Danielle defended her behaviour in Celebrity Big Brother, claiming she "didn't do anything wrong". In an interview with Katie Price and Peter Andre on Katie & Peter: Unleashed, the model insisted she had merely acted like a "silly, bitchy girl, like all girls can be bitchy".

Price told her: "Last year, you were in the explosive Big Brother house. It was a racist programme and we saw it all." She added that Lloyd seemed to have escaped the incident unscathed and continued her career, while Goody and O'Meara had "never really been forgiven".

However, Lloyd played down the trio's behaviour, saying: "I think that maybe they came out and apologised for things that they didn’t really do. Whereas I felt like I didn’t really do anything wrong in the house. I was probably being a silly, bitchy girl in the house, like all girls can be bitchy."

After Big Brother

Since her departure from Celebrity Big Brother, Danielle has made various promotional appearances. On 13 April, Lloyd flew over to Dublin with Coronation Street actor Ryan Thomas to open a nightclub in the suburb of Rathfarnham. According to the Rathfarnham Community Website, Lloyd was paid a fee of €6,000 for her short appearance.[38]

She has recently appeared on numerous covers of The Daily Star newspaper (initially at a rate of at least three to four times a week) after signing an exclusive deal with the publication, on the cover of Maxim magazine [39] and as a guest-star on ITV2's WAGs Boutique. Lloyd has signed a publishing deal to write a book documenting her experiences in the Celebrity Big Brother house, will release a fitness DVD in the Summer, has become the new face of both Ladbrokes Poker and Television X and will shortly make her film debut with a role in a new independent British film The be all and end all.

Lloyd also has plans to take her career to the U.S.A, and to spend time with her American friends, such as Paris Hilton. [2]

In the meanwhile, she attended Shilpa Shetty's movie premiere at Leicester Square. The movie, Life In A... Metro was the first Bollywood movie Lloyd has seen.[40] The two hugged and kissed on the red carpet in front of fans.[41] The appearance was alleged to have been little more than a damage-limitation exercise by Lloyd; Jade Goody was also scheduled to attend the premiere, but her invite was pulled at the last minute.

Danielle Lloyd helped open a mobile phone safety campaign after her own mobile was stolen in a Liverpool club. The Keep It Safe & Secure campaign, backed by the National Mobile Phone Crime Unit encourages mobile users to take greater safety precautions when using their phone. [42]

As well, she participated in a glamour models special of The Weakest Link, and won £8,950 for charity.

Recently, she confessed to hiring a nutritionist to help her to lose weight [citation needed]. In just 12 months since leaving the Big Brother house, she was reported to have gained nearly 30lbs. Further reports have suggested that she has gained a further stone, even since hiring a nutritionist, leaving her over 12 stone, and leaving her officially overweight. Danielle also has a fitness DVD released entitled "Keep Fit, Look Fit".

Danielle's catchphrase is "I'm only 23".

Since being dumped by footballer Teddy Sheringham, Danielle has been linked with a string of other footballers, including Marcus Bent, Armand Traoré, Jermaine Defoe - who denied the rumours and tabloid pictures - and Manchester United's Spanish defender Gerard Pique.[43] After dating businessman Will Foster, she has been photographed with Gladiator "Tornado,"[44] having announced that she would be appearing on Celebrity Gladiators for Sky One.
