Since 2021 Iranian Minister of Agriculture jihad, Natural Resources and Watershed Management Organization and Department of Environment follow the National One billion trees planting program for planting 1 billion tree within 4 years. Cities quotas are established and drought resistant types of saplings are grown to be planted.[1][2][3] Iranian population is 85 million which means brings to average 3 trees planted per people. The government considers this programme to be a soft power project, Iran ranked sixth in world CO2 production.[4][5]

- Revitalize natural jungles
- Producing wood
- Increased urban green space and open space reserve
- Lessen sand and dust storms
Analysis
Iran is in a catastrophic water crisis, there are various doubt around viability of the plan.[8] [9] Saudi Arabia plans to plant 50 billion trees and Chinese plan 80 billion trees planted.
RFI compared Iraqi 5 million trees aim against Iranians and called it more realistic.[10]
