The flag of Belgorod is one of the official symbols (along with the [[coat of arms]]) of the city of [[Belgorod]] in the [[Belgorod Oblast|Belgorod oblast]] of the [[Russia|Russian Federation]]. The flag is a symbol of unity and cooperation of the inhabitants of the city.

== Description ==

The flag of the city of Belgorod consists of a blue canvas and a white stripe. Its [[Charge (heraldry)|charge]] is a yellow [[lion]] standing on its hind legs, with a white [[eagle]] soaring above it. The city symbolism is more than 300 years old, and it appeared during the reign of [[Peter the Great|Peter I]]. The [[Tsar|Russian Tsar]] gave Belgorod coat of arms to honor the victory over the Swedes in the [[Battle of Poltava]] (1709).
