Vikum Liyanage RWP, RSP, ndu is a Sri Lanka Army officer. He is the incumbent Commander of the Sri Lanka Army.[1] Prior to his new appointment he was the 59th Chief of Staff of the Sri Lankan Army. On 1 July 2022, Lieutenant General HLVM Liyanage assumes as 24th Commander of Sri Lankan Army.[2] Earlier, he served as the Commandant, Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force.[3]

Early military career

He joined the Sri Lanka Army on 27 October 1986 after military training at the Sri Lanka Military Academy(SLMA) at Diyatalawa and then Pakistan Military Academy(PMA). After Commissioned his first posting was to the Gajaba Regiment as second lieutenant.[4]

Personal life

He is a past pupil of Vijaya College, Matale.[5][6] Liyanage is married to Mrs. Janaki and the couple is blessed with a daughter and a son.
