Anna Menon is an American astronaut. Menon was selected as a commercial astronaut on the Polaris Dawn mission, scheduled for the end of 2022.[1] Menon worked for NASA for seven years before joining SpaceX, where she serves as chief engineer of space operations.
Education
Menon earned a Bachelor of mathematics and Spanish degree from Texas Christian University and a Masters of Science degree in biomedical engineering from Duke University.[2]
Career
Social Service
Menon was an active worker towards providing relief to the victims of the 2015 earthquakes in Nepal. She helped them out with WHO's water and sanitation response along with other agencies like Engineers Without Borders. She began thinking about space in her school when her teacher took her on an excursion to NASA's facilities.[2]
NASA Career
Prior to SpaceX, Anna was a NASA biomedical flight controller for International Space Station.[3] There she assisted ISS crews from NASA's Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas, supervised engineers from other nations, and commanded biomedical operations for Soyuz MS-01.[2]
SpaceX Career
Anna Menon is currently at SpaceX as one of its Mission Directors, where she helps development of SpaceX manned spaceflight missions and currently works at SpaceX headquarters in Hawthorne, California. Anna served as mission director on several Dragon missions. At SpaceX, she manages the execution of Dragon manufacturing and operates as Crew Communications Operator.[2][4]
Menon was selected to be a mission specialist and chief medical officer for the Polaris Dawn mission, by spacecraft commander and billionaire Jared Isaacman.[1] The mission is expected to launch from Kennedy Space Center Launch Complex 39A by the end of 2022.[5]
Personal life
Menon is married to Anil Menon, lieutenant colonel in the United States Air Force, NASA astronaut candidate and a former SpaceX Medical Director.[6] They have two children.[7] She appeared in the five-episode docuseries entitled Countdown: Inspiration4 Mission to Space, released on Netflix in September 2021.[8]
