Activated in Support of Operation Enduring Freedom(OEF) (Afghanistan) from Mar 2013-Dec 2013 conducting Combat Logistic Patrols.

During his time in Afghanistan; Corporal Cordero was ( Twice) the subject of a “Meritorious Mast” for Outstanding Service as follows:

1.“ For Exceptional performance while serving as a motor transport operator, Engineer Company, Combat Logistics Regiment 2, II Marine Expeditionary Force(Forward), from Sept 2013 to Nov 2013, in Support of Operation Enduring Freedom. During this time, He performed his duties in a highly professional and exemplary manner. As a result of his technical proficiency, skillful operator abilities, and devotion to mission accomplishment. He was able to safely operate his vehicle in the cover of darkness with no headlights for the last 25 miles of the camp dywer, Phase 7 Demil Mission, using only his infrared screen. Due to his notable performance and calm and confident demeanor, he greatly contributed to Engineer Company’s ability to execute their missions.

By his exceptional professional ability, initiative, and loyal dedication to duty he reflected credit upon himself and upheld the highest traditions of the United States Marine Corps - “D.A. WHITESIDE-(Colonel, U.S. Marine Corps Commanding)

2. During the period of 5 October through 7 October 2013, Corporal Cordero provided exceptional support in the relocation of retrograde operations company, redeployment and retrograde in support of reset and reconstitution operations group, from their former location at the southern most point of camp leatherneck to their new location three blocks north. Corporal Cordero’s superb skills and persistent commitment to excellence ensured the safe and organized movement of Marine Corps retrograde operations, consisting of more than 150 seaworthy shipping containers and storage containers, ranging in size from 7 feet to 40 feet in length and weighing as much as 30,000 pounds. Corporal Cordero’s enthusiasm and dedication to duty resulted in a planned 5 day operation only taking 3 days to complete, often taking minimum breaks in order to continue the safe loading and transport of retrograde operations cargo, containers, and equipment.

Corporal Cordero’s attitude, professionalism and ‘Esprit De Corps’ reflect great credit upon him and are in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Marine Corps. - “ J.P. FLYNN (Lieutenant Colonel, USMC Commanding Officer)

“On the 16th day of January 2016 Corporal Luis D. Cordero was ‘Honorably Discharged’ from the United States Marine Corps and was awarded a certificate as a testimonial of Honest and Faithful Service. - HELEN G. PRATT” ( Brigadier General, USMC Commanding General )
