English: Photograph of a double-turret U.S. Monitor gunboat. The turrets have conical awnings over them and a single smokestack is seen in the center of the boat.
The U.S.S. Milwaukee was one of the four 1300-ton double-turret ironclad river monitors built at Carondelet, Missouri by James. B. Eads. The photo was donated in 1917 by Nina de L. Henriques who identified herself as the granddaughter of Hyman H. Cohen, a clothier in St. Louis in the 1850s. The reference "Our Boat" written on the back may indicate that Cohen originally owned the picture and was one of the sailors on the boat during the war. Title: U.S.S. Milwaukee.
