Summary
Description |
Sheet music cover, "The Ill-Fated Maine", subtitled "A Sympathetic Ballad Suggested by the Loss of U.S. Cruiser 'Maine' off Havana, Cuba", music and words by Thomas J. Quigley "Dedicated to the Authors Unfortunate Namesake of New York, who died on Board". Store Web page states: "The sheet music [mmm] was published in 1898 [...] There is no publisher mentioned on the sheet music...this is usually an indication that the composer self-published the piece [...] the back cover was sold to Chicago's Hibernian Banking Association, which ran a full page ad in that space. The music was printed in Chicago by the Illinois Engraving Co. [...] [Quigley] he was also a performer who sang songs written by others (his picture, as a singer, appears on a number of other music sheets from the first decade of the 20th century). [...] Bessie Bonehill (1855?-1902) was a British-born entertainer who not only performed in British music halls but also was a star in American Vaudeville. She was known not only for her singing but for her specialty...male impersonations. [...] bearing the credit "Courtesy NY Journal" [...] The sheet music [...] measures about 10-1/4 x 13-5/8 inches" |
