io, then on the Tornea-Elf. The rushing Muoniolcoski,a cataract 2 Kil. long, is audible at Muoniovara, !/4 hr. distant. Thedescent is exciting (2 kr. to the fors-styrman). The voyage (about280 Kil.) takes 21/2-3 days. Good quarters, at Kihlangi, Kengis Bruit,(iron-works), Pello, and Matarengi, with Ofver Tornea and Mt. Ava-taxa (p. 394), on the Finnish side. Between the station of Lap-pea (406 ft.) and that of Kengis Brule,1 hr. below it, the Muonio falls into the Tornea-Elf. Near Pello(266 ft.) is the Kittis, a hill associated with the memory of Mauper-tuis, who directed the geometrical measurements here in 1736. —From Matarengi, where it is usual to land, to Haparanda, see p. 394.From Lappea we may travel by land instead of by water.
