Description |
In August 1939, Georg Bredig (1868-1944) writes to his son, Max Bredig (1902-1977), and informs him that he and his daughter and son-in-law, Marianne Homburger (1903-1987) and Viktor Homburger (1888-1968), are giving up their apartments in anticipation of emigration from Germany. However, finding temporary accommodations remains difficult due to widespread antisemitism under the Third Reich. Georg's sisters, Ida and Valeska, are also experiencing housing challenges. Although Georg laments the situation and expresses uncertainty about the future, he still hopes to emigrate to the U.S.A via Holland in the fall of 1939. Georg would eventually stay with the Dutch chemist, Ernst Cohen (1869-1944), in Utrecht from October 1940 to January 1941 while awaiting his ship's departure for New York. |
