Text

New York Customs Inspector James O'Malley places handcuffs on Boulos H. Stephen, 37, passenger on the Italian liner Vulcania, after O'Malley seized an eight-pound chunk of pure opium with an underworld retail value of $100,000 which he found in the false bottom of a wooden trunk-like box. Stephen denied any knowledge of the opium. He said he had bought the black painted box in Lebanon for $10 as a container for gift he was bringing to friends here.
