These small 4 cylinder Fords were built in this style from 1937-59, they replaced the Ford Eight (8 hp) and Ford Ten (10hp).
Mainly built in the UK, but from 1939, in Australia as well.
Many different models were built over the years, from 1938, generally the Anglia was the 2 door and the Prefect was the 4 door;
1938-49 UK built E93A Prefect, E04A Anglia.
1939-45 Oz built E03A Prefect, the roadster was the E94A
1946-48 Oz built A53A Prefect, A54A Anglia.
1949-53 UK built E493A Prefect, E494A Anglia
1949-53 Oz built A493A Prefect, A494A Anglia.
1953-59 UK and Oz built 103E Popular
In 1953 the new lower, more modern 100E was released, but the 103E Popular, the old shape, continued on as a budget model.
This car, the E494A Anglia, was sold along side the 4 door E493A Prefect. The Prefect got a more modern updated look, the headlights now within the guards. But with the Anglia, it continued with the old look, headlights on top of the guards and a similar grille as the old 7W Ten. The E494A was only available as a 2 door saloon and panel van in the UK, but in Australia, the similar A494A was available as 2 door Tourer, Roadster Utility and Coupe Utility as well.
