Abdul Rashid Arian

Abdul Rashid Arian, born in November 1941 in Kandahar, was an Afghan politician and journalist. He joined the People's Democratic Party of Afghanistan, eventually becoming secretary of the Kandahar provincial committee. Arian was appointed as an alternate member of the party's central committee in 1973 and became a full member in 1977. He served as a member of the Revolutionary Council from 1978 and was Afghanistan's ambassador to Pakistan from 1978 to 1980. Babrak Karmal appointed him Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Justice in 1980. From 1981 to 1988, Arian was Vice Chairman of the Revolutionary Council. He was elected to the House of Elders in 1988 but was expelled from the government in 1990. [1]
