X-Men

Description
The X-Men franchise needs a franchise page (as described on the WikiProject Media franchises page). "Creating an article for the franchise as a jump off point for the children of it" is exactly what the multitude of articles on the franchise needs. Right now, there are many articles on the various characters, comic series, tv shows, and so on but there's no clear starting off point to summarize the jumble. Such an article would give casual browsers and curious newbies alike a much-needed introduction to the now-45-year-old franchise (!) that has no end in sight. (In fact, with the success of the recent Wolverine prequel and two more spin-offs greenlit, the number of casual fans can only grow.) Currently, the page titled "X-Men" leads to a page that ambiguously and confusingly switches topics between the comics, the franchise, and the superhero team themselves.

You may have a point. However, considering that the overwhelming majority of material devoted to this subject is within the scope of another project, Wikipedia:WikiProject Comics, I think it might well make more sense to raise the issue with them. Considering they already deal extensively with the majority of the material involved, I think you would be likely to encounter more editors there familiar with the topic as well.   • I can;t work out if you are proposing a task force or an article. If it is the former, I don't think it is necessary, the comics project is very inclusive and welcomes all new members and any help it can get. If the proposal is for an article, I'd point out that advice at WikiProject Media franchises page isn't considered guidance, it's really one user's creation. I agree the X-Men article is a bit of a mess, but there's an article on the film series at X-Men (film series). I'm not sure it is entirely clear that the X-Men are a franchise, or that we take that approach on Wikipedia. Current consensus would likely see X-Men (film series) moved to X-Men in film. Have a bash at tidying up X-Men, see how that works out. Hiding T 21:05, 4 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

A couple of points (some of which has been raised above):

  • X-Men isn't ambiguous - it deals with the comics and the team appearances, as well as having a section on the media adaptations. This is perfectly consistent with the top clot going to the first/best known incarnation - so we have CSI: Crime Scene Investigation (which is the CSI Las Vegas TV series) and CSI (franchise).
  • The Comics Project covers adaptations into other media too and this would technically fall well wthin the remit of the Marvel Comics workgroup (as should be flagged on the headers on the relevant talk pages).
  • There is already a natural starting point for the X-Men frnachise and it is at X-Men in other media - I have even proposed renaming and refocusing it to X-Men (franchise), basically pretty similar but it would also deal with the various X-Men Family titles. I think the same could/should be done for Batman in other media and Superman in other media (some discussion on the former at Talk:Batman (film series) - I have also raised this here: [1], [2]) and it would also bring them in line with the various media franchise articles (like the ones I've worked on like Aliens (franchise) and CSI (franchise)) and would also bring it under the media franchose project which would help with consistency across other media franchise articles. I have worked a lot on the comics parts of media franchises (articles and categories) and there is no incompatibility between the Comics and Media Franchise Projects. The "in other media" articles are there from splitting from articles and have evolved over time but I don't see a problem with switching them to look at the full franchise and, as a lot of comic book characters are becoming the basis of broad ranging media franchises, it seems like this will become and even bigger part of the work on such articles.

So, there is no need for a task force when this is already adequately covered, if a task force is what is being proposed. If it is an article then it is pretty much there it just needs renaming and the inclusion of the titles (although it'd probably be worth discussing this in a broader context at WT:CMC before doing it. Casey, Crime Photographer

The task force will aim to improve Wikipedia's coverage on Casey, Crime Photographer franchise . The Radio show grew out ov an earlier series of pulp stories and novels, and b-movies.

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre

The task force will aim to improve Wikipedia's coverage on The Texas Chainsaw Massacre franchise, including all of the films, characters and spin-offs. Wikiproject Godzilla Task Force proposal

Have there been any updates related to the Godzilla task force proposal? I would advocate for the task force's creation if necessary, as I think the scope of the series is large enough to necessitate such a thing.
