Charlie Morningstar

Charlie Morningstar (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) – (View AfD | edits since nomination)
(Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs· FENS · JSTOR · TWL)

Like Vaggie, this article also relies mostly about their relationship. But, despite that, it seems like this [1] is the only good source, The Mary Sue source that has already cited is quite useful but isn't a WP:SIGCOV, while the rest are just passing mentions from film reviews. WP:BEFORE, most of the sources were from the film reviews and Charlie was just a passing mention and it doesn't really discuss as a character at all. Fails WP:GNG. 22:45, 27 March 2024 (UTC) GreenishPickle! (🔔) 22:45, 27 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I strongly disagree with the OP and would argue that on the reception section ALONE, it counts as notable, and should be kept. It is inevitable it will be mentioned in film reviews, but I do not see that as hurting notability. I vote keep. Historyday01 (talk) 02:46, 28 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
An argument like this amounts to WP:ILIKEIT. GreenishPickle! (🔔) 02:51, 28 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Not necessarily. I am saying that there is enough reliable sources to justify it being kept. The fact that you are NOT considering alternatives to deletion and did NOT even start a discussion on the talk page of the article you have nominated, to address some of these issues, says everything to me. Deletion is not an alternative to what can be solved through editing. If you wanted to, you could have done more research to make the article better, but you did not. Historyday01 (talk) 02:58, 28 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
See WP:But there must be sources!. GreenishPickle! (🔔) 03:02, 28 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Whatever. My opinion has not changed despite your comments, which seem to reek of passive aggressivism to me. In any case, I hope more people weigh in on this discussion. Update: I am presently posting about this on related projects so as to get more eyes on this discussion, as we are are only two users and there should be more eyes on this AfD so there can be an informed decision that benefits all parties.Historyday01 (talk) 03:59, 28 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
This nomination is faulty. I vote for keep per the arguments of Historyday01. 71.179.137.86 (talk) 02:53, 28 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Even if you disagree, you actually need to build up your arguments better and find a possible source that could help the character pass WP:GNG. This is not a voting process. Also, it feels like after Historyday01 made an edit; after a minute later, this IP comes up immediately (looks like a sock). GreenishPickle! (🔔) 03:01, 28 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I understand that. I'm not at all related to Historyday01. I tend to disagree with their editing process and hostility toward you. I am only weighing on this AfD which I recently came across. That is all. 71.179.137.86 (talk) 03:04, 28 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Both of your comment thus far fail WP:VAGUEWAVE and AFD is not a vote so I'd recommend both of you give a more specific, detailed rationale, or the closing Admin will likely discount your stances. Sergecross73 msg me 03:36, 28 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
There is no point in fighting this. I am striking my comments so the closing admin doesn't need to. I hope the "both of you" is applying to the OP as well.71.179.137.86 (talk) 03:42, 28 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
User:Sergecross73 Both are most likely the same person. Pls see my evidence at Ferret's talkpage, and look at their editing patterns. Both also made by "there must be sources" arguments. GreenishPickle! (🔔) 03:59, 28 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
As I said there, can we please keep this civil without throwing around accusations? I am already trying to get MORE people to weigh in on this discussion by posting on related projects. Having both of us just go back-and-forth isn't doing anyone good. If I could go back in time, I'd have NEVER commented in this discussion at all. Also, the fact that you are semi-retired (as it says on your user page, where it also says "This user is no longer very active on Wikipedia.") and say you aren't very active on here anyhow, does make me wonder why you proposed this AfD. It just seems very odd to me, that's all. Please stop stirring trouble.Historyday01 (talk) 04:13, 28 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep. While I get how the OP arrived at their perspective, I think their reasoning isn't quite in line with WP:SIGCOV. Per the guideline, Significant coverage is more than a trivial mention, but it does not need to be the main topic of the source material, and its example for what constitutes a trivial mention is Martin Walker's statement, in a newspaper article about Bill Clinton, that "In high school, he was part of a jazz band called Three Blind Mice" is plainly a trivial mention of that band: Walker makes no examination of the band itself, no history of its existence of analysis of its performance—it's simply trivia about Clinton. Meanwhile, the articles from entertainment/media journalism cited on this page that OP calls passing mentions do involve actual analysis of the character. The Mary Sue describes attributes of the character's personality and how that personality affects the show's narrative and reception (what makes you want to go back and watch all of Hazbin Hotel is Charlie), BELatina connects the character's multilingualism to Medrano's Latin American background (Medrano’s latinidad might shine through most clearly in particularly colorful streams of expletives in Spanish that Charlie lets loose), and CBR appraises the voice actor performance of the character (Erika Henningsen, as Charlie, did an exemplary job of voicing a person cheery by nature but brought down by the massive weight of responsibilities on her shoulder). And to clarify, these sentences aren't the sole mentions of the character in each source. The reviews aren't mentioning the character in one sentence or other like with the Three Blind Mice example; the reviews have paragraphs summarizing and/or examining the Charlie character. These don't seem like passing mentions on the level of Walker's trivial mention of Three Blind Mice. This falls more into the second clause of the sentence I quoted from WP:SIGCOV: it does not need to be the main topic of the source material for it to still be significant coverage. Hydrangeans (she/her | talk | edits) 04:35, 28 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I believe Valnet sources like CBR doesn't contribute to GNG after checking WP:RSP. But, I would say the Mary sue source looks good now after rechecking it, thou I don't think Belatina is reliable. GreenishPickle! (🔔) 05:00, 28 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep per Hydrangeans analysis. Too bad about the IP who crossed-out their Keep comment, feeling welcome is a major part of the Wikipedia experience. Randy Kryn (talk) 05:08, 28 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Insufficient RSs to establish notability. Searches revealed nothing better. Has published a couple of books and is namechecked in other sources. Not clear where notability lies - probably as an author. Fails WP:GNG  Velella  Velella Talk   13:53, 26 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Delete as prior nominator for the same reasons I described in the prior nomination. To the closer, also consider the delete vote from User:WomenArtistUpdates from the previous nom. BrigadierG (talk) 18:42, 26 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Delete: Agree the notability in theory must come from his work as an author, and he seems to have previously written a successful book but the sources here aren't really about him, and so don't establish his notability. Editing84 (talk) 14:12, 26 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

This is exactly the kind of sourcing that was missing from the article and the second and third sources were added to the previous versions. They are all in-depth studies of Plantec and his work in reliable and verifiable sources. My "apologies" for including the wedding announcement that was the only thing that WomenArtistUpdates noticed in the expanded article, which had been included for the purposes of documenting his background and education. To the closing admin, please note that none of the above Delete votes address any of these sources, let alone acknowledge their existence. Alansohn (talk) 00:44, 27 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete Agree with WomenArtistUpdates. It looks like the sources added since this was last deleted, including the two of the three mentioned right above that weren't in the article when it was previously deleted, are all from 2004-2005 so they do not show that this author's 2004 book had any lasting impact. This lack of references outside this brief time frame -- other than things like a wedding announcement!? -- show that this person is not regarded as an important figure, nor have they originated a significant new concept, nor have they created a significant or well-known work, nor has their work become a significant monument or won significant critical attention, etc. So, this fails WP:AUTHOR completely. This character does not have enough WP:SIGCOV or WP:RS. Most articles that mention him are just about the film and don't go in depth on this character. Searching for the alt name Megatronus gives no better results, just TFwiki and sporadic toy announcements from Transformers fan sites. The previous AfD had one keep vote without policy rationale and closed due to the nominator being blocked, the article has not improved since then. Impressive piece of WP:FANCRUFT though, but we're WP:NOTFANDOM. StreetcarEnjoyer (talk) 19:16, 24 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Fails WP:SIGCOV. This source [3] is a bit useful for addition, but isn't a sigcov at all. Per WP:BEFORE, only this source could be useful [4], but nothing else. What we have sources now at the reception were just the reviews of the film itself and listicles/rankings only. GreenishPickle! (🔔) 22:39, 22 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Comment: Reviews of "Masquerade", the Angel Dust-centric fourth episode, and the B-plot of "Welcome to Heaven", the sixth episode, delve into the characterisation of the character and voice actor performance, passing WP:SIGCOV. 2001:BB6:3A30:D700:5195:FE6F:1E81:6F85 (talk) 23:28, 22 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Well, not really. The reviews are for the episodes themselves, and as far as my Google search goes, none go into detail on the character. Per WP:LOTSOFSOURCES: Notability requires the presence of significant treatment of a subject in reliable independent sources, not just the mere presence of the searched-for term. Also, per WP:FICT: Specifically, fictional elements are presumed to be notable if there is significant coverage in independent secondary sources about the fictional element. This may be a case of WP:TOOSOON. Spinixster (chat!) 01:10, 23 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, it's a case of something like Porygon lacking an article despite Dennō Senshi Porygon having an article. Having episodes dedicated to a character can help, but there needs to be actual coverage on the element outside of whatever they're associated with. Has one ever considered Magneton? Pokelego999 (talk) 03:50, 23 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Support as per WP:TOOSOON Maybe this character will be important for independent coverage in the future, but not now. Samoht27 (talk) 07:47, 24 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Support would be to redirect/move the page back into draftspace/merge the reception into List of Hazbin Hotel and Helluva Boss characters, right? I agree this character should receive a page at one point, but maybe later in the year/next year when there is just a little bit more coverage. 2001:BB6:3A30:D700:55D1:AA1:430B:8A45 (talk) 19:37, 24 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Merge to List of Hazbin Hotel and Helluva Boss characters. Most of the sources are primary sources, Decider is unreliable, and the rest I can’t really find on WP:RSP Brachy08 (Talk) 10:41, 26 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Merge to List of Hazbin Hotel and Helluva Boss characters. Most sources include passing mention and no in-depth coverage specifically on the character. The information, however, could definitely be worked into the list. Maybe some time in the future, the continued popularity of this character could warrant an article, but it is simply WP:TOOSOON to include one with so little coverage. ~ GoatLordServant(Talk) 17:53, 26 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

This list seems to be an unreferenced fan-cruft list. None of the entries have citations, and I don't think this subject is notable. Di (they-them) (talk) 20:08, 22 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  • I just easily found and added a bunch of references. Searching for a name and "Jew" is not hard to do. I don't see how it could possibly be controversial to say someone is Jewish, especially not a fictional character. Dream Focus 03:05, 23 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • I really think you would benefit from reviewing the literature, including that I cited above. Also, your argument doesn't logically follow: the nom cited notability. I addressed notability. You argue that a list of Jewish comic characters is not notable when I've just demonstrated that Jewish comic characters, as a topic, are notable. That's textbook LISTN: One accepted reason why a list topic is considered notable is if it has been discussed as a group or set by independent reliable sources. Even given your habit of suggesting that surmountable problems make an article deletion-worthy, that's not even what you're arguing here. I'm puzzled; your arguments, even when I disagree with them, are usually much stronger than this. Jclemens (talk) 05:22, 23 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Unremarkable and inconsequential DVD compilations. --woodensuperman 10:04, 15 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Comment Let me repeat again; there needs to be more than reviews for this to stay up. I don't look at just reviews when I determine deletion/keep, because there is well more to an article than just reviewing a work, and I just can't see beyond reviews for a basic consumer DVD of cartoons whose purpose was more distraction than collection. Nate (chatter) 23:01, 16 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I can only direct you to the guidelines again. That these compilations were made more for distraction than collection is possible (and some reviewers concur with you, btw) but that's not exactly the point, I'm afraid. I really have no further comment. -My, oh my! (Mushy Yank) 23:20, 16 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • For information: On 2nd thoughts and after further checking, I undid the redirect of the 4th Deproded page I mentioned in my !vote (was far from perfect) and moved the page (the name is now EXTREMELY generic but that's the actual title of the compilation series). Just saying this here for information as maybe the nominator might wish to know. -My, oh my! (Mushy Yank) 22:49, 17 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    These are WP:ROTM product reviews. --woodensuperman 09:04, 19 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
They're reviews= significant coverage from reliable independent sources. And that's the requirement on Wikipedia. And no, on top of that, sorry, I don't think you can call them "run-of-the-mill", especially after reading the essay whose link you provided and that I am inviting you to read (again) too. -My, oh my! (Mushy Yank) 10:26, 19 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
These reviews are not the WP:SIGCOV required to demonstrate notability, they are just run of the mill product reviews. These are inconsequential DVD compilation releases which, I'm sorry, have no place in an encyclopedia per WP:INDISCRIMINATE. There are some DVD and Blu-ray box sets which are critically acclaimed and have a tremendous amount of coverage in reviews, etc., but for the most part, even these do not warrant articles. These trivial little entries in the Disney catalogue just simply aren't worthy of inclusion. --woodensuperman 10:47, 19 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your reply. Your opinion about those compilations was clear from the start. These reviews are significant coverage and denying it is almost bizarre, I think. You don't need positive reviews (let alone, "critical acclaim") nor "tremendous amount of coverage" to prove something is notable on WP. You need multiple reviews. Some have been presented. Calling the subject "trivial", "unremarkable", etc., expresses, I'm afraid, only your opinion about the compilations, and has little to do with their notability (according to WP). My personal opinion about them has, for example, nothing to do with my !vote. I have no further comment (as I fear I could only repeat what I have already said) and I only wish that, next time you take an article to AFd or ProD one, you perform a (better) BEFORE. Thank you. -My, oh my! (Mushy Yank) 11:07, 19 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  • Comment: I found a good source in the Daily Oklahoman that mentions it was nominated at one point for two Harvey awards. Nominations aren't something that would give notability on their own, but this is a major enough award to imply that there is likely more coverage out there. I'll keep digging. ReaderofthePack(formerly Tokyogirl79) (。◕‿◕。) 14:09, 11 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
This is frustrating - I found some sourcing but it's kind of light and a lot of it is reviewing it in relation to the overall CrossGen universe. The Harvey noms suggests that more coverage exists but what I can find doesn't really do a great job of backing all of that up. ReaderofthePack(formerly Tokyogirl79) (。◕‿◕。) 14:29, 11 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Perhaps a good alternative would be to create a page on the entire Sigilverse? There's enough info and general coverage to justify pulling that info out to its own, particularly as I note that this isn't the only title with some issues with sourcing. Of course someone would have to make this and I'm not really flush with time like I used to be. If the choice is to create the page then this could redirect with history to the main company page until someone does that. ReaderofthePack(formerly Tokyogirl79) (。◕‿◕。) 14:35, 11 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Yeah, that's the same issue I was running into looking for sources - there are a number of sources discussing CrossGen as a whole, but the only coverage in them on Scion, in specific, was usually only very brief mentions. If not a whole article on the Sigilverse, perhaps expanding CrossGen#Sigilverse to be more than just a list of the titles included in it could work as well? Rorshacma (talk) 21:14, 11 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I've nominted this on pl wiki (pl:Wikipedia:Poczekalnia/artykuły/2024:03:11:Dziedzic (komiks)). One editor there found a source: [5]/[6] which has a passing mention of this, which I'l quote fully - it is just two sentences, but it has a bit of analysis/reception: One of the most intriguing epic fantasies was CrossGen’s Scion , which began in 2000 and ended abruptly in 2004 with the demise of the publisher. Th e story combines romance and politics, as a prince and princess from opposing dynasties fall in love but also fi ght for the freedom of the “lesser races.”. Perhaps we can save this? Nomnation, passing assessment in SIGCOV but relible source? Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 02:18, 12 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep - In order to help build a consensus, I am going to go ahead and recommend a Keep for this current discussion, with no prejudice against a subsequent discussion for any potential Mergers. While the sources are still pretty scarce, there is enough that outright Deletion is out of the question, and simply redirecting without some kind of Merge would not really be appropriate. The series might still warrant being merged to a broader topic about CrossGen or the Silverse, as discussed, but that possibility can be decided outside of the current AFD.
