The result of the discussion was delete. Deryck C. 10:10, 18 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Delete. Unlikely spelling error. The 'ç' would be debatable, though I would also nominate because I think we should not preemptively create just about any remotely plausible error. But the 'ŝ' is almost impossible to be used by anyone trying to write in Portuguese because there is no such letter in the language's script. Zero hits goes to show how unlikely it is. Nabla (talk) 23:00, 8 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Champion: it looks like you've got it backwards. The redirect has diacritics but the target does not. The nominator is claiming these diacritics are incorrect, did you find some usage of this term with these diacritics? -- Tavix (talk) 04:39, 17 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Tavix: Apologies, I have just withdrawn my !vote. - CHAMPION (talk) (contributions) (logs) 04:41, 17 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete. In such cases it's possible that the odd diacritics might be representative of an older spelling, but here (although I don't know Portuguese) I'm finding it hard to imagine how any of the two diacritics could have ended up where they are. – Uanfala 09:49, 18 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was retarget to Evil. -- Patar knight - chat/contributions 07:10, 16 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

These words are not exclusive to "crime". They could also be related to Villian or Antagonist. Steel1943 (talk) 21:18, 8 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

To me, "evil" is more of a religious or moral term and not a criminal justice term. What someone refers to as "evildoing", or committing a moral wrong is not necessarily committing a crime in the legal sense. So an "evildoer" is not necessarily a criminal, just as a "sinner" is not. Seems like unnecessary redundancy, given that all gourds are plants. Could this refer to gourd-like plants that are not gourds? Steel1943 (talk) 20:58, 8 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

There are plants that look like gourds but aren't. An example is Datura. I hate this (sorry no NPOV here) gourd-like plant and it is growing like a weed in my front yard. Its fruit looks like a prickly gourd. That still makes this redirect pointless, though. Barbara (WVS)   23:44, 8 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was delete. As an aside, a couple of these have been "fixed" by a double-redirect bot upwards of 15 times. I don't think I've ever seen that before. -- Tavix (talk) 04:29, 17 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think that normally we should be bothered about such a profusion of redirects, but on this topic, where nationalistic POV-pushing is rife, it becomes apparent that WP:COSTLY has higher relevance than elsewhere. To illustrate, in June 2015 the proper targets of these redirects East Azerbaijan Province and West Azerbaijan Province were moved to Old Kurdistan and West Azerbaijan is Kurdistan respectively [1] [2]. This got reverted in less than two hours, but that was enough time for all of its redirects to be picked up as double redirects and "fixed" by Xqbot. A few of them were subsequently corrected, while the ones I'm nominating (as well as quite a few more) weren't. Anyone following any of these redirects in the last two years would have been taken to the wrong article. Now, the relevant article has now received indefinite move protection, so this scenario isn't going to recur. However, with all these redirects being out there, and apparently so few of them being watched, they're potentially open to piecemeal POV-retargeting. In such an area it makes sense to only hold on to the redirects that are actually needed and relieve ourselves of the maintenance burden imposed by the ones whose only merit consists in being "harmless".

Specifically why are these redirects not needed? Ostan is the Persian for "province", so the first eight of these effectively mix up Persian and English renditions of the same word. Noting that the corresponding redirects without Province at the end do exist: Ostan-e Azarbayjan-e Gharbi, Ostān-e Āz̄arbāyjān-e Gharbī etc. The remaining two redirects feature an awkward hyphen/dash in their middle and are redundant to West Azerbaijan, and are remnants of moves, having been the article's title for a few hours to a couple of days repsectively in 2010. – Uanfala 19:41, 8 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Overly vague and confusing redirect that may be confused with actual antlions, which are a real insect. Should be deleted to avoid confusion. ZXCVBNM (TALK) 18:03, 8 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

"Antlions that serve as guards" I'm afraid [citation needed] applies for that one. As for "guards against antlions" we follow real world usage. If the insect repellent version is ever needed, you that's what Antlion guard (insect repellent) would be for. Headbomb {t · c · p · b} 01:43, 9 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Despite being the name of a Half Life enemy, this redirect is much too vague in terms of its name. It could refer to literally any alien that controls things. It's better to be deleted to avoid confusion. ZXCVBNM (TALK) 17:55, 8 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

  • soft redirect to Wiktionary wikt:canadew, where readers will find out that it is "A melon that is a cross between a honeydew and a cantaloupe." I've not been able to find out enough to write any more than that dictionary definition. We don't have a list of melon cultivars or similar list that I can find, but we do have articles on many other types of melon so it is the sort of thing people will look up on Wikipedia.
