Draft:United States presidential election, 2024 (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)

Has no chance of becoming an article anytime soon per WP:CRYSTALBALL. The mainspace title (United States presidential election, 2024) is protected until 2020. funplussmart (talk) 18:43, 13 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete in deference to the AfD on the title we can't approve the Draft through AfC. Legacypac (talk) 19:18, 13 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete - The purpose of draft space is to work on possible articles. A deletion discussion has decided that we don't need the article at this time, because it would be crystal balling, so we don't need the draft either. Robert McClenon (talk) 19:50, 13 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep - The mainspace is protected until 2020 - that's only slightly over a year away, so people ought to be able to work on a draft if there are reliable sources commenting on the topic, and there clearly are reliable source commenting on the topic. • Keep - This is a future presidential election. The draft will be updated as new information comes. Once it's big enough, it can be moved to article namespace. 01:49, 19 October 2018 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.205.150.243 (talk)
  • Keep. There's no reasonable question that this is an event that will happen, and will require an article. It seems harmless to have this in draft space until then. bd2412 T 03:09, 21 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep Wikipedia:Drafts#Miscellany for deletion says:

Drafts are not subject to article deletion criteria like "no context" or no indication of notability so creators may have time to establish notability and make other improvements. Drafts may be nominated for deletion at Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion (MfD), but not solely based upon a concern about notability. A draft that has been repeatedly resubmitted and declined at AfC without any substantial improvement may be deleted at MfD if consensus determines that it is unlikely to ever meet the requirements for mainspace and it otherwise meets one of the reasons for deletion outlined in the deletion policy. Substantial leeway is given to drafts; however, the community may occasionally decide to delete a draft via MfD if it is determined that the reasons for deletion are strong.

The community consensus is that deletion of a draft should not be done "solely based upon a concern about notability". My view is that deletion of a draft should not be done "solely based upon a concern about WP:CRYSTAL" unless there is strong evidence that the event will not happen. The event is scheduled for November 5, 2024, and will happen.

United States presidential election, 2020 was nominated for deletion on 30 October 2015 (a little over five years before its 3 November, 2020, scheduled occurrence) at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/United States presidential election, 2020 and closed as WP:SNOW keep. If the consensus is the same for the 2024 article, United States presidential election, 2024 will be created and be kept at AfD by October 2019, one year from now. Like BD2412, I think it is harmless, and it is fine to keep this draft in draftspace for another year. The page says "the community may occasionally decide to delete a draft via MfD if it is determined that the reasons for deletion are strong". I do not consider the WP:CRYSTAL reason for deletion to be strong.

  • Keep and I think it could be expanded and moved to mainspace almost immediately. There are multiple discussions in reliable news sources already of possible candidates, and this applies to both parties. DGG ( talk ) 04:37, 23 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
