Great minds think alike! We must have started writing the same article on about the same day, after getting our copies of Mojo. Anyway, let me know what you think. I noticed you added back in succession boxes for some articles including The Wonder of You. While the general opinion in various discussions at WT:CHARTS is leaning against them, a true consensus has not been reached and it would be great if you can add to the discussion to give reasons why you prefer to have them for songs and albums that went to number one on any chart.

Here is a link to summary of issues that I brought up when trying to come up with a compromise for succession boxes back in March: Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Albums/Archive 35#Proposal for use of succession boxes for #1 albums/singles. Below are a number of comments culled from the various discussions on similar and other problems people have with them. You can find links to the entire history of the discussion at WT:CHARTS#Consensus on use of succession boxes?.

• "A labyrinth of every imaginable component chart and airplay chart"
• "A succession box where neither the predecessor nor the successor has an article isn't a useful navigation tool"
• "Succession boxes are not to present information. They are not to document the number of weeks on a chart. ... They are a navigational tool."
• "Succession boxes [relating to music articles] are an indiscriminate collection of information as "Excessive listing of statistics" that is not notable to the subject"
• "They are a "navigation tool" to other number one "Songs" and Albums that really have no connection with the page they are on."
• "The information contained in the boxes is often unsourced (particularly the dates) and relies on other Wiki articles to determine what came before and after the article topic on the charts."
• "People are posting incorrect dates concerning the time frame that a song is at #1 on Billboard's charts"
• "We don't have to include the nav-boxes so people can find this information, since we have all these lists"

Notability on Wikipedia is not a question of counting how many Google hits the topic did or didn't get in any given week, nor is it a matter of splashing sources all over a deleting administrator's talk page after the deletion is over. A page can be deleted at any time if it doesn't already make an actual statement of notability (the article as written didn't; it just asserted his existence) which are already referenced to reliable sources (the article as written didn't have any; blogs and twitter feeds don't count).

Speedy deletion doesn't mean that nobody can write a better article in the future; it just means that that the particular version of the article in question didn't cut it. You're free to try rewriting the article at any time to better explain his notability, using some of the sources you had ready to throw at my talk page — but Wikipedia administrators can't read your mind to know what you intend to add to the article in the future; we can only judge the article as it actually stands at the time we see it. Just to clarify, I wasn't "offended by your posting to my talk page", as you implied in your response — but administrators do get a bit frustrated sometimes at being told that "Topic X is notable because of this gigantic list of new sources that weren't in the article at the time it was originally deleted". It just happens way too often, that's all. Sorry if I gave the wrong impression. But you're right, the new version is a more solid and genuinely keepable article. Hi, thanks for your encouraging comment regarding Isaac Perrins. I knocked it out in 24 hours after seeing one sentence in an economic history journal which I was actually using further to develop W & J Galloway & Sons & another article I've been drafting on and off for some weeks.

Now for the kicker ... For some reason I thought using modern comparative values in a form such as "£20,000 (£2.2 m today)" was deprecated on Wikipedia. If it is not then I have a host of areas that could benefit from this. I wonder if the best treatment would be to cite the site your mention in your DYK review next to the comparative figure, which would enable people at least to get a grasp of the implications. I can't find anything specific which counsels against using inflation adjusted values, MOS:CURRENCY#Currencies doesn't have anything to say on the matter. There are articles which explicitly have these values e.g. List_of_most_expensive_paintings#List_of_highest_prices_paid_at_auctions_or_private_sales_.28inflation_adjusted.29 I wouldn't go overboard with it, adjusting every value and I agree you could use the site I used as a ref. yorkshiresky (talk) 13:38, 29 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. This article has come due for administrator closure. While it has certainly come a long way, I note that it still contains derivative elements of the original (some of these are documented at the article's copyright problems board listing, although it's not an exhaustive list). The article needs more work if it is to be retained, but no rewrite has been proposed. Since you have obviously put a lot of effort into it, I wanted to ask you if you planned to address the outstanding issues.

Also, while I'm here, I need to note that I've reviewed your correspondence at User talk:NortyNort, and I understand that you had intended to paste the source article in your userspace as a starting point for you own. I'm afraid that Wikipedia's terms of use do not allow such copying of non-free content in any space. Before you hit "save" on Wikipedia, you really need to be sure that all content you are added complies with terms of use. Additionally, there are challenges in that model of working. In order to avoid creating a close paraphrase, it's best to rewrite from scratch. Writing over existing content runs a substantial risk of retaining too much of the language and structure, both elements which may be copyrighted.
