Hi, as a veteran editor and regular adder of redirects to Category:Avoided double redirects could I put a question to you? Another editor has created a number of redirects to an artist containing both albums (mentioned in the article target) and songs (not mentioned in the article). We disagree whether a) the song redirects should exist with no mention in the artist page and b) whether it is appropriate use of the avoided redirect tag when it they say that song A is an avoided redirect to album B.

Any thoughts?

@Richhoncho: I'm not an expert but not being mentioned in the article I believe falls under Wikipedia:R#DELETE, if the song was mentioned in the article in a discography for example then the redirect is fine. About the avoided double redirect, I am unsure as I have never redirected a song like that, but I understand it as if the album was turned into an article then the song would surely be redirected to the album. I don't think whether we are talking of songs or other items makes much difference, it's the application of the policy that is relevant. For the interests of fairness the other editor wrote, "I think "alternative title" is just another word for "redirect". Template:R avoided double redirect § Purpose states:

Some redirects should target other redirects, but that is not allowed by Wikipedia software. A redirect that targets another redirect is called a "double redirect". This redirect category (rcat) template may be used to tag redirects from alternative forms (abbreviations, disambiguated titles, etc.) of titles that are themselves redirects to broader-topic articles (whether or not marked as redirects with possibilities). To avoid a double redirect, any alternative-title redirect must also target the same broader article, and must be updated if the redirect from the more specific title is converted to a separate article."

Also the other editor has agreed to me re-adding the songs to the albums in the main space, but still insists they should be tagged as {{a2r}} which is back where we started. Richhoncho (talk) 19:07, 19 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Word to the wise. I have just removed a couple of cats from your recent additions The Laundress (The Muppet Christmas Carol) and The Beggar (The Muppet Christmas Carol). If the main redirect is correctly catt'd there is no need to cat on the avoided redirect, we don't need duplicate entries in every cat. Let me know if you need more clarification. Actually looking again, the idea of creating of new A2r redirects seems really silly (didn't spot this earlier). The whole point of them is keep the history of a moved/wrong title space article to attribute to the contributor any text carried forward.

Looking, randomly, at Category:Ninjago character redirects to lists, I notice that several characters are listed more than once under different spellings. Why would this be required (no need to answer, if anything I am taking this elsewhere for comments).

Nobody is adding anything to the encyclopedia, merely the administration and costs. It's probably time for me to leave WP for a couple of years to save on BP tablets. Cheers. Richhoncho (talk) 10:36, 22 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Sahaib. I'm guessing you created an article for each "episode"? Don't you think it's an unlikely search term? The disambiguation pages you've created don't link directly to the proper articles, either, they link to redirects, all of them, in fact, link back to the same two "List of..." articles. Then I would really question the naming convention you are using for this series of articles. Where episodes don't have individual titles, they need to be disambiguated, obviously, but would it not make far more sense and follow WP:COMMONNAME and WP:DISAMBIGUATION guidelines to use something in the form "The Traitors (British series 2, episode 12)"? @Bastun: "Episode 12" is the name used on the BBC website though IMDb refers to it as "Episode #2.12". Other articles have numbers in titles such as Episode 29 (Twin Peaks) and Episode 4466. Looking over this talk page, you've already been called out for a lot of problematic categorization lately. Still, I'm trying to figure out the rationale behind creating entire levels of mostly empty categories simply to host a series of fully-populated categories (the ones pertaining to mayors) several layers down. @Transmissions: I added the vast majority of mayors to the categories with the exceptions being mayors of places in Oklahoma, 21st-century mayors of places in New Jersey, Oscar Leeser, Mary D. Lowman, Susanna M. Salter, Christine Hunschofsky, Mark Begich, etc. Using a calculator that is over 800 articles and I have not forgotten about these categories as I created the category Category:20th-century mayors of places in Nevada yesterday. I will admit there was several gaps between when I started these categories in December 2023 to now where I did not add to the categorisation but this can be attributed to me having a busy life and/or editing something else on Wikipedia. Hallo, Please don't create a talk page for a disambiguation page, like Talk:Roger (disambiguation) unless there is something to say there: all dab pages are of interest to WikiProject Disambiguation, and it doesn't need a template to say so. See the documentation at {{WikiProject Disambiguation}}, which says in a standout box: "Please do not use this template solely to create talk pages that otherwise have no content.".

It might seem harmless to create an unnecessary talk page, but it means that an editor wanting to work on the dab page might waste time looking at the talk page to see if there is some relevant discussion, rather than seeing that the talk page doesn't exist. Hi there, I have noticed that you have made a lot of categories for mayors by century, such as Category:Mayors of places in Wisconsin by century. Many of these categories only have one or two people in them, which isn't very helpful. It is actually risky because if that single page gets removed, then the category gets tagged as empty, and eventually gets deleted. Please add at least 5 people to categories when you make them. Hey, just wanted to ask about the constant removal of the info on the Zerkaa intro text? It's just as KSI has that info and I have added it to the rest of the members and there is no references on any of them in regards to that as it is widespread public knowledge. Zerkaa is in the sidemen and the sidemen own XIX vodka, Sides and Best Breakfasts so that makes him co-owner of all of these so I feel they wouldn't need refs as it is known and no other member has the refs.
