No issue. I respect what you said, how you said it, and agree. My response was intended for those deletionists who always show up, because fixing articles to serve the project is not wrong. Wow. If only the others would return instead of making a hit-and-run. The nominator is not accepting logical arguments and it is poor form to promise if the discussion closes against his opinion with a keep after eleven days, he'll take it to DRV. It is not a vote, but to be decided by policy and guideline over personal opinion. Essentially, twenty poor deletes do not outweigh one or two policy and guideline based arguments. Hasteur is pretty good, in my opinion. However, as nominator, few nominators are open to persuasion to change their mind. In making the nomination you then, I think I see, get a commitment to dig in. I've made few nominations, but I note that I feel a fool if made to change my mind and withdraw the nomination. I think some (maybe most?) of them are deproddable as they pass WP:NACTOR#1 or WP:CREATIVE standard, but I trust your evaluation. @JohnCD: It's a great tool, specially if you check spelling differences and related searches. The Google weakness is explained and expanded at WP:INDAFD, where I found offer THIS one for "Indian English Newspapers Searches" and THIS other developed for various Indian languages. I moved a page as it seemed strange to have (2007 Bengali film) only to find out the other page was also a 2007 film!

Here Dhoka (2007 film), as it turns out the page for Dhoka is ALSO from 2007! I was going to move it back, but it wont let me now. (I think a hat note is needed for both films), when I saw that the main page was for a film with the same name I didn't expect that they both be from the same year. @Wgolf: I just did this. Actually same-year same-time title is not all that unusual for India... specially when filmmakers try to capitalize on title popularity of other projects. Sorcha Faal

Hi MichaelQSchmidt Here is the information they wanted deleted from the Sorcha Faal article as dichotomies such as this are never allowed to survive. Maybe you can put it back in, but if you do, watch how fast it will disappear:

In 2016, Russian newspaper Trud claimed that Faal was affiliated with foreign intelligence services:

Experts noted that the Sorcha Faal's website is a "flush tank", through which one of the groups of American military and political elite merges information uncomfortable for their opponents. "Of course, for the project are special services, but who exactly‍—‌to understand yet difficult: British MI6, Mossad, CIA, DIA (Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense) and the American National Security Agency, for example," said professor of the Diplomatic Academy of Russia Igor Panarin. "Of course, it is an element of information warfare, but within the American elite".[1]

In 2016, Russian channel REN TV alleged, without offering proof, that Sorcha Faal was a portal for unnamed intelligence services.[2]

Concerns that Faal was in some way affiliated with the U.S. government were first raised in 2009 by the conservative political advocacy organization Americans for Limited Government when they posted on their website[3] a Freedom of Information Act reply from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) that stated 10 Faal articles had been used by the DHS in compiling their controversial report titled Right-wing Extremism Current Economic and Political Climate Fueling Resurgence in Radicalization and Recruitment.[4]

In 2016, a Faal report alleging that two U.S. military helicopters were shot down by Turkey over Syria was widely reported by mainstream Russia media sources including Свободная пресса‍—‌Википедия[5] and Trud[6] with the Sputnik news agency (in their German language edition) reporting that the United States Department of Defense denied this happened with Pentagon spokeswoman Michelle Baldanza stating "This is an absolute lie"[7] and Trud still commenting on it a subsequent article about Turkey.[8]

As an exercise for the student, I have adopted your useful search technique for this 9-minute short film (see talk page), but found nothing. It existed, it was shown at 3 festivals in 2001, that was it. Infobox film and plainlist

If you look at {{infobox film}}, it explicitly says to use {{plainlist}} to separate multiple items. I'm not sure where you're getting this thing that says MOS:FILM says we should use {{ubl}}. NinjaRobotPirate (talk) 09:08, 30 May 2016 (UTC)

@NinjaRobotPirate: Old habits I suppose. When I first began expanding infoboxes, I found that {{plainlist}} looked and felt clunky and so I became accustomed to using {{ubl}} because it was easier to use and looked sleeker and... this may only be me... I read the template header explanation "All parameters are optional" as not stating that "only" {{plainlist}} should or must be "explicitly" used without exception. Be well. Highfive (company)

Hi. I spent quite a lot of time expanding and improving this article. I spotted a poorer quality stub and worked on it. I have no idea why it was deleted. It was reliably sourced to over 20 credible sources, and I made sure it was written neutrally and encyclopedically. Look about on the web and you'll see it meets content guidelines. I've not been editing here long but if this is the how my work gets treated I'm not sure I want to continue here. @CLHoyas97: It is not so much about the article or its sourcing (which on the face of it seem reasonable), but was deleted as suspected and undisclosed paid editing by a sockfarm. Better that you read this and then write to BethNaught... to explain your edits and ask that if it is determined that you are not part of a sockfarm that the deletion might be reconsidered. @Dr. Blofeld: Have a look at User:Dr. Blofeld/Highfive (company). I think it was improved enough to no longer be the one-edit work of a sockfarm, but when spoken of with the deleting Admin, she did not want to reverse herself and buck the ANI discussion and suggested a DRV. Thanks for that. At quick glance I see nothing glaringly promotional about it and seems to meet GNG and neutrality guidelines, it certainly has the coverage in reliable sources and seems to be notable in its field. How many articles got deleted? It would be good to see a list. I agree that nuking the work of the sockfarmer was justified to deter them, and fully understand why Beth would feel uncomfortable acting in this situation. The sock doesn't own the article subjects though. I would guess that some of the articles which got deleted were actually notable. A problem arises though when a company wants an article on wikipedia and under normal circumstances it would be meet notability requirements. Our job is to document all notable information, so if we ignore and are intolerant of subjects because that subject might want the article we're not doing our job properly, as much as we need to send them a message that it's totally not acceptable. The best solution would be to assess what is notable and what isn't and ensure that if the articles are restarted that they're completely devoid of promotion and the gushing material you often get from PR people. I don't share the view with some people on here that if a company wants an article we completely block it from existing. If the article subject meets GNG then the article should exist, regardless. We need to find some middle ground on here in acknowledging this sort of thing I think, as companies (and hotels) typically get a very hard time on wikipedia and do face a sort of discrimination, and not all are paid PR work, or have neutrality problems. Each article needs to be assessed independently and checked for notability and neutrality.♦ Dr. Blofeld 09:05, 2 August 2016 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) As the original proposer of the ANI that resulted in a community ban and WP:TNT of every article produced by the sock farm, I was careful to include one caveat in my proposal. Articles that had been significantly expanded or changed should warrant exclusion -- provided a neutral review of the article determined it met the criteria for inclusion and met our guidelines for WP:PROMO. An editor has been going around commenting out sections saying it needs a source. An example is Robert Tinkler. Interesting they are commenting out films/TV in lists, but leaving them in the text (ie American Dad). IMDb is listed in external links section. Is this kosher? @Bgwhite: Wow. Deconstructing a sourcable article is never helpful. I see that this early VERSION is far more complete than this later one and, by being more comprehensive, could lead to better source searches than would the current version. Also the early version includes many bluelinks to support WP:NACTOR, while the later has been made quite weak. Might be best to roll back to the early version, add the source and tags from the later and let it be improved over time and through diligent effort. Extended confirmed protection

Hello, MichaelQSchmidt. This message is intended to notify administrators of important changes to the protection policy.

Extended confirmed protection (also known as "30/500 protection") is a new level of page protection that only allows edits from accounts at least 30 days old and with 500 edits. The automatically assigned "extended confirmed" user right was created for this purpose. The protection level was created following this community discussion with the primary intention of enforcing various arbitration remedies that prohibited editors under the "30 days/500 edits" threshold to edit certain topic areas.

In July and August 2016, a request for comment established consensus for community use of the new protection level. Administrators are authorized to apply extended confirmed protection to combat any form of disruption (e.g. vandalism, sock puppetry, edit warring, etc.) on any topic, subject to the following conditions:

  • Extended confirmed protection may only be used in cases where semi-protection has proven ineffective. It should not be used as a first resort.
  • A bot will post a notification at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard of each use. MusikBot currently does this by updating a report, which is transcluded onto the noticeboard.

Please review the protection policy carefully before using this new level of protection on pages. Thank you.

Asian 10,000 Challenge invite

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Asia/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like South East Asia, Japan/China or India etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. At some stage we hope to run some contests to benefit Asian content, a destubathon perhaps, aimed at reducing the stub count would be a good place to start, based on the current Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon which has produced near 200 articles in just three days. If you would like to see this happening for Asia, and see potential in this attracting more interest and editors for the country/countries you work on please sign up and being contributing to the challenge! A new user right for New Page Patrollers

Hi MichaelQSchmidt.

A new user group, New Page Reviewer, has been created in a move to greatly improve the standard of new page patrolling. The user right can be granted by any admin at PERM. It is highly recommended that admins look beyond the simple numerical threshold and satisfy themselves that the candidates have the required skills of communication and an advanced knowledge of notability and deletion. Admins are automatically included in this user right.

It is anticipated that this user right will significantly reduce the work load of admins who patrol the performance of the patrollers. However,due to the complexity of the rollout, some rights may have been accorded that may later need to be withdrawn, so some help will still be needed to some extent when discovering wrongly applied deletion tags or inappropriate pages that escape the attention of less experienced reviewers, and above all, hasty and bitey tagging for maintenance. User warnings are available here but very often a friendly custom message works best.
