Fake bio on user page

Hi, at my RfA you asked an interesting question about WP:FAKEARTICLE.

I recently added the user page template to User:Vineetgupta22 and explained the reason on his talk page, but he reverted it. Please take a look and consider whether he needs further advice on the point. – Fayenatic London 19:40, 31 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Resolved - someone else has reinstated it. – Fayenatic London 21:50, 31 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Counter-Vandalism Academy

Hello!

I have interest in enrolling in the Counter-Vandalism Academy, however after several attempts very few of the trainers are active. Not responding or no contributions in a while are common, as well as people who just don't have time anymore. However all of these people are still listed on the active page. I realize you're inactive, and while it would be great if you would take me on I completely understand if that's not possible but as the former coordinator I wondered if you could put me in touch with somebody who may be more active, or at least try to cleanup the instructor section as I've had no luck with any of them. Thanks for your time!

Kharkiv07 (talk) 22:25, 23 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I've taken a look at your contributions, and it seems like you're doing a great job at the first 3 (of 4) steps that we used to teach in the CVUA (Identify, Restore, Inform). Now, I can say that I haven't been involved in the CVUA for two and a half years, so I may not be as up-to-date in their current policies as someone else (have you tried posting at WT:CVUA?) but a cursory check of your reverts seem to all be on-the-level and your user warnings are all fine. I would take a look at the relevant guidelines at WP:AIV on when and how to report vandalism to the admins. If you have any questions, I'd be happy to look into any issues that come up, but I don't think you honestly need the help of a one-on-one tutor. Let me know if there's anything else you need. Undoing of edit to WP:AWARDS

Hi, I noticed you undid my edit to the WP:AWARDS article, commenting that "literally know one [sic] is coming here looking for that essay." I couldn't agree with you more, which was why the edit was in the section before the lead in which other forms of the idea of "awards" are located, in order to disambiguate them from each other and to distinguish them from the actual WP:AWARDS article which follows. It feels a little presumptuous to say that you know what people are looking for in this respect, as I myself was looking for just such an essay when I typed in "WP:AWARDS" in the search box and got the result that I did, which is why I made the edit that I did, so that others like me might be able to find the essay covering the topic of awards and notability quickly and easily-- in the same way that WP:FOOTBALL points to the notability criteria of football players and WP:ACADEMIC describes the notability criteria for academics. Can I ask you to reconsider the change you made in light of this? Thanks! KDS4444Talk 15:41, 26 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, thanks for the message. I'd highly suggest checking out WP:Hatnote for the current policies concerning the proper use of Hatnotes. Generally, they're used for A. Articles with similar titles, B. Disambiguation pages, and C. Redirection of ambiguous titles. Generally, a Hatnote is proper iff someone may have come to a page by mistake. Any other use is likely inappropriate. Specifically WP:RELATED explicitly states that topics that are just related to, but couldn't be confused with, each other is not appropriate. If you have any other questions, feel free to let me know. Achowat (talk) 05:15, 27 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I have added this to Talk page too but since no one came I thought to tell you directly.

Thank You Komchi 18:22, 27 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, selfishly I'd like to thank you for the personalized update, but broadly I'd remind you that everyone can update the page, not just me. I'm going to respond over at WT:WPWPA. Achowat (talk) 07:54, 29 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Well as you have told me, could you also tell me how could I have updated the table my own because I have no idea and I should have not because the page said discuss it in the talk page first. I even asked for help in help desk and they told me to ask someone who is active in the list. So, first asked User:Piotrus and respond was weird(https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Komchi) then I came to you and you helped me out :). Komchi 12:42, 29 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

WikiCup 2015 May newsletter

C/2014 Q2 (Lovejoy) is a long-period comet discovered on 17 August 2014 by Terry Lovejoy; and is one of several Featured Pictures worked up by India The Herald (submissions) during the second round.

The second round one has all wrapped up, and round three has now begun! Congratulations to the 34 contestants who have made it through, but well done and thank you to all contestants who took part in our second round. Leading the way overall was Belarus Cas Liber (submissions) in Group B with a total of 777 points for a variety of contributions including Good Articles on Corona Borealis and Microscopium - both of which received the maximum bonus.

Special credit must be given to a number of high importance articles improved during the second round.

The points varied across groups, with the lowest score required to gain automatic qualification was 68 in Group A - meanwhile the second place score in Group H was 404, which would have been high enough to win all but one of the other Groups! As well as the top two of each group automatically going through to the third round, a minimum score of 55 was required for a wildcard competitor to go through. We had a three-way tie at 55 points and all three have qualified for the next round, in the spirit of fairness. The third round ends on June 28, with the top two in each group progressing automatically while the remaining 16 highest scorers across all four groups go through as wildcards. Good luck to all competitors for the third round! Request

Hey hopefully you remember me, I once came for help related to Wikiproject Awards Barnstars I made.I wanted to request you that if you got any Barnstars to be made, feel free to ask me, I am free for some work as I am on a vacation. Thanks Komchi 15:29, 7 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I can't think of anything not extant that we need. The only thing I can think of is looking at the current list and creating either 1.0 or 2.0 barnstars that don't currently exist. Achowat (talk) 02:52, 8 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

MLS Team Sporting Kansas City

If you are going to leave Sporting KC listed as Kansas City, Kansas, please update the table description of the table or add a note because otherwise it may mislead people into thinking Sporting Kansas City is a Kansas team. In 2009, due to the financial crisis, Sporting KC had to change the location of its new venue across the border from Missouri into Kansas. Other than that incident, Sporting Kansas City has absolutely no ties to the state of Kansas. If you look at the history of the club, its founding by Lamar Hunt (Kansas City Chiefs), its early days as the KC Wizards and playing in Arrowhead Stadium, its front office location as well as the training facilities and where the athletes practice (all in Missouri), you will see why its important to have Sporting KC listed as a Missouri team. The club members don't even go to Kansas except on game day. Missouri is very proud of its MLS team and, honestly, it's insulting to have them listed in another state.

"Sporting Kansas City, based in Missouri, became the first major-league team to have played in stadiums on both sides of the state line in Kansas City after the opening of the new Sporting Park in Kansas. Kansas City became the only U.S. metropolitan area besides New York City to have major professional sports teams playing in different states."

In the table, there is only a single column referring to stadium location. Everything else is referring to club information (coach, year established, etc). This table is clearly supposed to give information about the current MLS teams and their conference alignment. All of the cities listed are showing where that team is based out of, except for Sporting KC. It's the only inaccuracy in the table. For example: Chicago Fire are based out of Bridgeview, IL. Chart says Bridgeview, IL. New England Revolution is based out of Foxborough. Chart says Foxborough. New York Red Bulls are based out of Harrison, NJ. Chart says Harrison, NJ. FC Dallas is based out of Frisco. Chart says Frisco. Sporting Kansas City is based out of KC, Missouri. BUT CHART SAYS KC, KANSAS!!!!!!!!!!! Not correct. There is already a column showing venue location. Why put the same info in two separate columns?Jkeiltaylor (talk) 16:29, 9 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, I don't think Wikipedia is in the business of taking sides in Midwestern border rivalries. The Revolution play in Foxborough (as it says on the chart) but the 2011 SuperLiga listed 'Boston' as a host city, even though the games were in Foxborough. Your own reference mentions NYC clubs, and what does it say for RBNY? It says New Jersey. What on earth could be meant by 'where a team is based' rather than where that team calls 'Home'. While it's clear that Uncle Lamar and the current Sporting higher-ups want to appeal to the more-populated city in Missouri, the team is from Kansas. (I'd also like to subtly remind you of WP:3RR and propose that maybe you can find a greater consensus on the talk page). Achowat (talk) 18:20, 9 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
OK, I will drop the argument but at least you heard me out. Just know that this is not correct. If you are saying they are from Kansas, I would challenge you to find any citation for that.Jkeiltaylor (talk) 18:28, 9 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I want to be clear, I'm not saying that I'm right and you're wrong. I don't think any two editors should ever have that kind of authority. I'm saying that there may well be more people who agree with you, maybe even most, and that the best way to effect the changes you want is to try to build a consensus on the talk page. If there's anything else I can help you with, don't hesitate to ask. Achowat (talk) 18:32, 9 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with you, it shouldn't be up to me or you. As you can probably tell, I'm new to this and don't completely understand the talk pages. Where would I go to have a community discussion talk page about this?Jkeiltaylor (talk) 18:46, 9 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Talk:Major League Soccer sounds like a good place to start. That's the talk page for discussing how to improve Major League Soccer (the article). If you want a more generalized discussion, kind of a 'how should we deal with all of the pages that list SKC, maybe the talk page for the WikiProject Football task force for American soccer. I'd highly suggest checking out a lot of our policies and stuff, but WP:TALK, WP:CON, WP:V, and WP:TRUE seem most useful to your current issue. I'm periodically around, let me know if I can be of any use to you. Achowat (talk) 18:53, 9 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Use of "America" when the meaning is "United States"

You are correct, that one irks me so whenever I see it I change it :)

In school, the difference between America and the United States was beaten into our heads. America is two continents. The United States is one country. There is no country or nation named "America". So when someone puts "Nationality - American" , well, what does that tell us ? He's not European or Russian, I guess. But he she or it could be from Guatemala, Venezuela, Costa Rica, Peru or thirty other countries. It's about as descriptive as using the word "Earthling" ! All it tells us is, this person comes from the western hemisphere. The use of "American" in that way is flat-out wrong. And becoming more and more common, alas !

You are correct, occasionally using 'United States' becomes very cumbersome in a sentence. As an occasionality, what the heck. But we really need to stomp on this total misuse of the name "America" when people really mean "United States."

Today's schools just have a heck of a lot to answer for :(

edit : Oh poo, didn't notice your directions at the top. But now that we're here, may as well stay here ?

Antonio Smith

Antonio Smith has spent a lot of time and energy constructing the Ninja Assassin nickname, and the moniker was on his wikipedia page for years. No idea why it was removed. Please stop removing it. Thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by 209.163.240.98 (talk) 22:40, 9 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I literally touched the Antonio Smith page once, ever in 2012, and I removed it four hours after you put it on there. Again, in 2012. It is possible, I'd say likely, that the nickname has become more prevalent in the intervening 5 years. Achowat (talk) 22:01, 23 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Also, when adding the Talkback to your page, it seems like we talked about this back in 2012, when there truly were no reliable sources. There are now, and the page is fine. Achowat (talk) 22:03, 23 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

What are your thoughts on my new CVU Silver/Gold Ribbons?

I picked back up where I left off with the Ribbons!

I've redesigned both the CVU Siler and CVU Gold using File:Ribbon.xcf as a base, but I'm not sure about the colors. I based my pallet off the mini (as I usually do), but those are more of a yellow whereas your prior colors were somewhat more golden, and I'm not sure that I like the brighter yellow better.

It does match the yellow on the medal version, but you're one of the few people actually using the ribbon rather than the barnstar itself, so I figured I'd throw the question to you. Mesmerus (talk) 10:18, 23 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
