Everett Kennedy Brown (14, July 1959) is American photo artist, writer, journalist, former president of Epa Japan office. He was born in Washington, D.C. in United States of America. Graduated from Antioch College with major in Foreign Civilizations and Literatures 1982. Traveled to Asia and lived in various countries. 1988-Settled in Japan. Everett now lives in and take care of a Buddhist temple in Kyoto called Geshinji. The temple has a more than 1,000 year tradition and is now owned by the estate of Hashimoto Kansetsu, one of the great early 20th century painters. He uses the temple as his center for promoting Japanese culture with his partner, Junko Sophie Okimoto. A photographer working in Japan for the past 28 years, his work has appeared in most major global media, including National Geographic, Geo, Time, Newsweek, Le Monde, Der Spiegel, New York Times. He has been fortunate to travel extensively throughout the Japanese archipelago, with many opportunities to meet uniquely remarkable people and hear their stories. Somehow, doors have opened allowing me to view things rarely accessible to the public eye. In recent years, he has often been asked to share his stories and perspectives on Japan. He is invited to give lectures, appears on television, writes essays and books in Japanese and even offer advice on national government policy. On one government panel he summarized his experience of Japan by saying, “Japan. Endless discovery” and to his amazement these words were adopted by the Japanese Government as a national slogan. His readings deeply influence the vision that permeates his photography. It’s been his experience that ancient currents of Japanese culture are still accessible if we open our minds by acquiring the knowledge and developing the skills needed to attune ourselves to these energies. This belief is deeply shared and nurtured by such cultural leaders and friends as Matsuoka Seigo, Kawase Toshiro, Tezuka Yuji and Raku Kichizaemon. For him, life in Japan is a long and ever-deepening love affair with place and culture. Through his imagery, honoring the use of Japanese classical techniques and traditional materials, he wish to share his vision of the deep currents of Japanese culture that he encounters in his journeys.   • "Japanese Samurai Fashion" (New York · hpgrp gallery, 2017) This festival "Soma Nomaoi" which was handed down for about 800 years in Soma region in Fukushima Prefecture was photographed with a wet paper photo, he feels like a soul. The color photograph has taken over, photographing the foot of about 100 hakama. In addition, reversing and repeating color photographs, the development of expressing the history and essence of 'Nomaoi' by a writer's original method has also been noticed, and it will be taken up at CNN Style, the Washington Post newspaper, France and Germany.
