Chief Mobolaji Olukayode Ayorinde SAN, FCIArb, OFR (born October 22, 1962) is the founder and Senior Partner of B.A Law LLP[1] (formerly B. Ayorinde & CO)[2] a Nigerian law firm in Nigeria with branch offices in Lagos, Ibadan, Abuja the Federal Capital Territory and Port-Harcourt. He is also a door tenant at Great James Street Chambers[3] in London, UK.

Early Life

Mobolaji Ayorinde is a member of the Ayorinde family of Ajimajasan Compound[3], Agbokojo Ibadan, and is the son of the Honourable Justice Timothy Adebayo Ayorinde[4], Former Chief Judge of Oyo State, and Chief Mrs. Christiana Adetokunbo Ayorinde

Education

Chief Bolaji Ayorinde SAN as he is popularly called, started his formal education at the Sacred Heart Private School, Ring-Road, Ibadan[5] where he did his Primary School Education before proceeding to Government College, Ibadan in 1974 for his secondary school. He also attended the International School, University of Ibadan, Oyo State in 1979 and obtained his GCE Advanced Level Certificate, International Baccalaureate, A Levels Certificate in 1981.  In September 1981, he proceeded to the University College Buckland, Oxford shire England, United Kingdom for his university education and obtained the University of Oxford, GCE Certificate [Law] Intermediate LLB) in 1983.

Thereafter, he attended the prestigious Holborn Law Tutors, Roupell Street, London for his University of London[4], Bachelor of Laws LLB Hons Degree Certificate and graduated in 1985. He proceeded to the Nigerian Law School, for his BL at Victoria Island, Lagos, in 1985 where he obtained the Council of Legal Education Certificate of Call to Bar in 1986. For his National Youth Service program in 1987, he was posted to Lagos State and attached to the provide Law firm of Messer Akin-Delano[6] at Lagos. During this period, he was a junior with Akin-Delano with offices in Ibadan and Lagos. He worked directly under the Principal Chief Akin Delano, SAN and in 1989; he was seconded to take charge of the Lagos Office. He worked in the firm of Akin Delano until 1990 when he set up the law firm of B.AYORINDE & CO.  He was appointed Notary Public for Nigeria in 1994[7] and was elevated to the prestigious rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) on the 26TH of September 2005[8].

Professional Career

Chief Bolaji Ayorinde SAN began his legal career with the Law Firm of Messrs. Akin-Delano, Legal Practitioners where he was posted for his National Youth Service Program in 1986. During this period he worked directly under the Principal, Chief Akin – Delano S. A. N. and three years after, in 1989, he was seconded to take charge of the Lagos Office of the Firm. He worked in the firm of Akin-Delano until 1990 when he set up the Law Firm of B. Ayorinde & CO. His areas of legal practice include:  General Civil Litigation, Commercial litigation, Company Law, Family Law, Property and Land Law, Banking Law, Insurance Law & Liquidation law, Arbitration, Maritime Law and Shipping Law, Public Advocacy and Parliamentary Counselling Services.

He is a Member of the Nigerian Bar Association (N.B.A),[9] International Bar Association [IBA], Nigeria-British Chamber of Commerce, Nigerian-Belgian Commercial Information and Documentation Centre and Commonwealth Lawyers Association. He has been a Council Member, Section on Public and Development Law, (SPIDEL) of the N.B.A., Chairman Finance Committee, Nigerian Bar Association, Ikeja Branch and he is an active member of the Body of Senior Advocates of Nigeria. He was also a member of the Constitution Drafting Committee[10], Diocese of Lagos West at the inception of the Diocese. He is also a member of various church societies as well as several socio-cultural organizations, clubs and societies.[11]

Achievements and Awards

He was appointed Pro-Chancellor, Chairman Governing Council Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso, Oyo State (2007-2011), Appointed by Ex President Goodluck Jonathan as a member of the Presidential Advisory Committee on the Prerogative of Mercy (PACPM))[12], Appointed Chairman Legal Aid Council of Nigeria (2012)[12], Fellow, Nigerian Institute of Chartered Arbitrators, Chairman, Aviation & Transport Committee[12], Nigerian Institute of Chartered Arbitrators.[13] He was also the Chairman of the Oyo State Committee on the Decongestion of Prisons.[12]

He is the holder of the Ghana 2006/2007 outstanding African Nations Builders Gold Award, Society of Security Practitioners of Nigeria Award 2005/2007, Augustine Nnamani Chambers, Faculty of Law, University of Ibadan Distinguished Personality Award 2008, LAUTECH Alumni Award for Excellence in leadership and Administration 2007, Federation of Oyo State Students Union Platinum Award of Excellent Leadership Award 2008 and the 2010 Award for Professional Excellence by the Central Council for Ibadan Indigenes (CCII).[3] In June 2012, he was appointed Chairman of the Governing Board of the Legal Aid Council of Nigeria by the President. He was Conferred with the National Honour of “Officer of the Order of the Federal Republic” of Nigeria, OFR in 2014.

In the course of his legal profession, Mobolaji Ayorinde has written several articles, touching on specific and notable topics, drawing momentum from the prevailing legal and economic conditions in Nigeria. Membership

Mobolaji Ayorinde is a member of several associations and committees inclusive of being a Member, of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Chairman, Committee on the Decongestion of Prisons, Oyo State, a member of the Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SAN), he is also a Member of the International Bar Association (IBA). In 1938 he became a member of the Ikoyi Club, in 1959, a member of the Metropolitan Club, 1959, Lagos.

Mobolaji Ayorinde is a member of the Nigeria-British Chamber of Commerce (NBCC)[20], which propelled him to be a Fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Chartered Arbitrators[21], he is also a Member of the Nigerian-Belgian Commercial Information and Documentation Centre[22], Chairman of the NBA Dispute Resolution Committee 2021[23], member of the Omo Ajorosun Club, Ibadan, a member of the Ibadan Golf Club, Ibadan[24], a prominent member of the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club[25], Lagos, and also a member of the Island Club,[26] Lagos.

Over the years, Chief Bolaji Ayorinde SAN has been able to maintain a balance between his career and his religious life. He has held various leadership positions in church and is also a member of various church organizations such as: Patron, Lady Workers League of the Cathedral of St. James The Great, Okebola, Ibadan, Oyo State, Member of Christian Unity Band of Nigeria of All Saints, Anglican Church Ikosi – Ketu, Lagos and a Member, Youth Christian Society of the Cathedral of St. James The Great, Oke Bola, Ibadan.

Also, he is a member of Ogunpa Descendants Union of the Cathedral of St James The Great, Okebola Ibadan, Fountain of Hope Society, Member of African Church Cathedral Bethel, Lagos, a honourary Member of Christian Guild African Church Cathedral Bethel, Lagos, Patron of Men’s Friendly Society and Young Women Christian Association of All Saints Anglican Church, Ikosi-Ketu, Lagos State. Lastly, he is a member of the Constitution Drafting Committee, Diocese of Lagos West.

Chieftaincy Titles

Chief Mobolaji Olukayode Ayorinde holds the traditional title of Otun Baale Bode Igbo in Ibadan land since 1995 and recently Honorary Title of Agba Ofin of Ibadan.
